Happy hats for grumpy weather
I started learning to sew in the mid 80's because I needed to fill an elective credit in high school. I liked it... Leather became my material of choice in the early 90's, after a friend from my home town (Spokane WA) shared some tips about working with it.
I became a fan of hats after moving to Seattle. Never did like umbrellas so I wore hats instead. Soon I discovered that fabric and felt hats just don't stand up to the rain, so I made a leather cap and it served me well for more than a decade of constant wear. the first was a lucky success. Made a couple more with mediocre results and set hats aside for a time.
My employer retired a heavy duty upholstery sewing machine and I bought it. Then I needed to make another hat for a theme night at the club. With the new machine and my improved understanding of the materials it came out pretty good (back then I thought it was awesome). It was about then in 2010 that I decided to get serious about hats. I have been developing my techniques, patterns, styles, and sizing since then, and they have evolved much. Thanks for looking.
