Keeping It Creative

Creating keeps me sane and makes me feel alive. It's a constant process. I'm always thinking about what I can make next from the medium to the smallest of details. While creating is primarily and outlet for myself, I'm also thinking about others who can and will enjoy my pieces.

Currently my two favorite creative outlets are working with polymer clay and painting/upcycling vintage jewelry boxes or other thrift store finds. My polymer clay creations range from altar goddesses, to jewelry, incense holders, and goddess necklaces. I often incorporate high quality, ethically source crystals and stones in some of my work. As a rock hound myself, this also includes rocks and stones I've found in my travels including Oregon Coast agates and the Oregon Sunstone. All of my pieces are one of a kind originals.

Painting jewelry boxes is almost a meditative process for me. Each step is a piece of the process and contributes to the final result. My favorite pieces are vintage jewelry boxes from the 60's and 70's that are still structurally sound and in good condition. From there, I disassemble it, clean it and sand it a bit to help the paint stick. In most cases, I also replace the lining with new velvet flocking. My paints of choice are mineral chalk paint and acrylic paint. I also make sure all the hardware is in good working condition or I replace it. Each piece is sealed for protection to make sure it has a new long lasting second life.
