Thank you for visiting my Etsy shop! I'm Emily, the creator of my small business, Up in Suds😊🧼 I’ve been making handcrafted soap for over ten years and have worked to develop a product that is high quality, natural, unique, made in small batches, and that gives back to the local community in my hometown.
As a redhead with sensitive skin, I am very picky about my soap. I strive to make a product that stands out for its quality, wholesomeness, and creativity. My soaps are made with olive, coconut, castor, and organic sustainable palm oils and are enriched with shea and cocoa butters. They are scented only with plant-based essential oils, don't include harsh detergents that a lot of commercial soaps contain, and are truly art you can bathe with!
My soaps are paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free. Choosing the oils that go into my soap first hand ensures the great quality of ingredients. The oil base for my recipe is a custom blend I formulated with my oils of choice for their specific beneficial properties (i.e. moisture, lather, and hardness for a long-lasting bar.)
My inspiration to create Up in Suds began at Pittsburgh farmers’ markets. The sense of community, wholesomeness and healthiness there was something I wanted to remain a part of. My mom sold her soap at the Citiparks markets in 2013, and I have been hooked on soapmaking ever since. I fell in love with how soapmaking is not only a creative outlet, but the result is a practical and quality product that everyone can use!
I’ve always been a creative type who feels the most content when making something. I was raised by my mom and aunt who are definite hippies- with their influence, I grew up playing guitar, drawing, doing crafts, and learning soapmaking. The hippie theme is something I wanted to incorporate into Up in Suds because I’ve definitely got some hippie instilled in me. "Up in Suds" might have been coined by my mom who miiiight be a Cheech and Chong fan, and you might notice some of my soap names use this theme. Whether or not we agree on everything hippie- patchouli, tye dye, fringed vests, lava lamps, incense etc. I think at the very least, we can all agree on the mantra of peace and love✌🏻☮️💕
A portion of every batch made by Up in Suds is donated to local homeless shelters. Pittsburgh is a proud, creative, and diverse city, and creating a business that gives back to the community is at the heart of my goals for my enthusiastically locally themed brand.
I’m working hard to expand my small business and really appreciate all the support so far! Here’s to more…
Good. Clean. Fun.
