*"No one is ever to old to play"*

What does it mean to be Waldorf inspired? Well, Waldorf is an education system that was developed in Germany. The system has a couple of things that define their toys. I follow two of them - Less is more and toys that can be played with in different ways as a child grows. A Good Toy is 10% toy and 90% child. I strive to be a good toy.

Each handmade toy is made with love, wood, glue, and AP approved non-toxic water based acrylic paints in Edinburg Va. Order your toy today and watch how it inspires the imagination of the child you give it to.

Also known as Unexpected Surprises!

A personal note from the toy maker:

Hi! I design all of my toys, I don't use plans. I don't do custom orders because if I don't feel like going in the shop I don't. I do take suggestions.

Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my store and reading this.

Sincerely,

Patrick, your humble toy maker.

ps. It is currently taking me about a week to 10 days to get things shipped out. Most of my items are made to order. I also sell at Historic Eastern Market in Washington D.C. on the weekends.

About

Why wood toys?

Back In 2006 I decided I wanted to go into business again. I had owned a construction business before but didn't want to do it again. I wanted to be able to work when I felt like working and to work on what I felt like making. I went in to a Woodcraft store one day and they had boxes of exotic wood board ends for sale. I bought a box and started making cars out of the wood. At that time frame, people in southwest Virginia, weren't buying to many wooden toys, so I started making wooden boxes. My boxes took off for a while until I moved back to the D.C. Area. A bunch of things happened at that time helped create the business I have now. I had been do renaissance faires and was making wooden swords. I started painting just the handles of the swords and the kids loved it. I had done some research on toys from the renaissance time frame and found the wooden animals on wheels and started making those. Towards the end of 2008 I started selling my wares at historic Eastern Market in Washington D.C. The wooden toys sold really well and my boxes didn't. I haven't made a box since...

I enjoy designing toys. All of my Toys are of my design. There are some great features in them that I really didn't intend to incorporate but are elements of the ways I make boxes. I round over all my edges and sand away as much of the rough spots as I can. I like there to be some texture but no splinters. I also always leave some wood showing when I paint a toy. I've found that kids like the appearance and the energy the toys give off that way.

I love to see the smile on a child's face when they play with my toys. I'm sure you will to!
