About

An unmolded lump of clay is a gateway to the infinite for me.

I am a friend to mud. I love all dirt, except the kind that ends up on my kitchen floor. Whether I am in the garden digging, hiking paths along the Mississippi River, or out in the studio throwing clay I am constantly finding a way to connect myself with the earth.
I am a self taught potter, well for the most part. Like many people I took a pottery class in high school and fell deeply in love with the feeling and rhythm of potting. I did nothing to pursue the art until inspired by my father to do something I could truly love for a living. I am slowing working towards this goal and having a wonderful time trying! “Your profession is not what brings home your paycheck. Your profession is what you were put on earth to do… with such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling. “- Vincent Van Gogh
My pottery reflects my understanding of the ceramic process, it is simple and honest. I find contentment in making forms of function and look forward to the evolution that will occur as my knowledge of the art expands. There are many small stages involved in making a pot; preparing the clay, forming the piece and altering, refining, and embellishing it as the work becomes dry enough. I bisque fire which brings it to a workable state for glazing and then back in the fire again. As with any craft some aspects are just grunt work. My love comes from the formation. I do my best work when I’m able to create organically. I take a lump of clay and gauge by the size a general form, place it on the wheel and just let process happen. It’s a back and forth with the clay on which way the lines will flow but I always walk away from my work feeling a little more balanced.
All of my glazes are non-toxic; lead free, and food safe. All pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe unless otherwise noted. The completion of a single pot takes several weeks and requires a great deal of patience. The result is a durable unique work of art to be used every day in the home.

I am a self taught potter with a huge love of clay. My current Modus operandi is wheel throwing with a focus on formation. I am keeping the glaze very simple at this point just happy to put a little color out into the world of pots.
