I love the composition with the light and shadows. Something about it makes me feel hopeful and calm. It will fit well with the colors in my home and other art pieces. Looks exactly as in the listing. Thank you so much for the very quick shipping too!

VanDerHoekArt was opened in October, 2006.
Born in Southern California and raised in Big Bear City, Kim spent many hours as a child climbing trees, sledding down snow-covered hills, horseback riding and hiking through the woods. Surrounded by the wild beauty of the forest Kim developed an early appreciation for the outdoors, which she continues to explore today through painting.
After graduating with a fine arts degree in illustration from the California College of the Arts in Oakland California Kim worked as a graphic designer for 11 years. She left the design field to pursue a career as a full-time painter. Today she paints in the studio as well as en plein air (painting outdoors).
She began painting en plein air because it combined her love of being outside and creating art. "I enjoy the challenges plein air painting poses. Dealing with the weather, changing light and other hurdles of outdoor painting has forced me to learn to make decisions quickly, to paint with commitment and above all, to have a plan for each painting." Kim feels that her plein air work has, in turn, strengthened her studio paintings.
"It is my hope that when you view my painting from across the room you can easily see what the subject is, then, upon closer inspection, you find yourself lost in the brushwork."
Kim is a signature member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA), a member of the American Impressionist Society (AIS), a member of the Southern California Plein Air Painters Association (SOCALPAPA), and an Artists member of the California Art Club (CAC).
Thursday, June 16, 2011 Issue of Informed Collector - "Plein air work with a lyrical quality and energetic brush work, drawing us in for a long, lingering, introspective visit."
Michael Gormley, RayMarArt Judge for March 2011 - "An honest take on the landscape we might pass by every day. It finds a beauty in the forms of industry and the human presence. Like a visual interpretation of Willa Cather's abstracted description of the plow in My Antonia, the painting show's how man's presence and nature's power push and counterbalance."

Additional policies and FAQs
First, original art is priced according to the artists skill level, experience/education and their reputation (or brand) recognition amongst the art collecting community. For most painters, like myself, It's taken years of study and hundreds of hours painting to achieve even a moderate level of skill. Most painters never make it past the beginner stage in their development because at some point they realize just how hard painting truly is, they become discouraged and quit. In other words I've spent years getting to this point in my painting career.
Second, artists typically price their work by size. My work, for example, is priced by the square inch and not on the amount of time it's taken me to produce a painting. From a collectors standpoint this pricing structure seems the most logical even though a small painting might take as much time to produce as a larger one. Additionally, it takes many years to build an art career that includes name recognition, a reputation for quality and longevity. I actively participate in nationally recognized painting events and art shows across the country alongside the some of best painters in the U.S. and I have won a number of awards (including being a 2011 finalist for the American Artists Magazine Cover Competition). I am constantly working to build a quality reputation in the art world and to improve my ability as an artist.
Do you see a painting of mine that you like as a print? Most of my original paintings are available as prints through ImageKind.com at the following link - http://www.imagekind.com/artists/KimVanDerHoek/all/fine-art-prints
What is a canvas panel? Most of my artwork is painted on a canvas panel manufactured by RayMarArt. (A few are painted on Fredrix canvas panels.) RayMar uses a specially formulated pH neutral adhesive to bind canvas on 1/8 inch or 1/16 inch MDF, a clean oil free board of uniform consistency. To ensure balance the reverse side is covered with RayMar's exclusive gray melamine backing to prevent unequal stress on the panel and resist warping. This results in a panel that is sealed on both sides for a permanent barrier against deterioration from environmental conditions and handling. Most outdoor (plein air) landscape painters work on canvas panels because they are durable and can be handled in the field without being easily damaged.
What is stretched canvas? Stretched canvas refers to canvas stretched and secured to a wooden frame (also known as a stretcher bar). Most of my large paintings that have been created in a studio environment are painted on stretched canvas.
