My designs are hand-crafted from non-working vintage materials. Most of the materials that I work with date from the late 1800s up to the 1950s. I love giving these beautiful vintage pieces the chance to be seen and appreciated again.

Velvet Mechanism has been featured in the books "1,000 Steampunk Creations" and "1,000 Incredible Costume & Cosplay Ideas", the role-playing book "Unhallowed Necropolis", The Stranger, The Seattle Times, Ibuki Magazine, Goth Magazine, Haute Macabre, Morbid Outlook, Divine Caroline, Dose Nation, and a Chinese fashion magazine called "Shopper". My work has also been featured in catalogs for Gloomth and the Sanguine Gryphon, in the web series "Perpetual Steampunk", in a production of "Wicked" at the Det Ny Teater in Denmark, and in numerous other productions, publications, art galleries and blogs. I've been featured on the front page of Etsy several times, as well as in the Etsy Gift Guide.

While the item was absolutely beautiful and nothing at all was wrong with it, it unfortunately didn't work for me. However, I am very impressed with the shop working with me to return the item. I would definitely recommend this shop and would order from here again!

The item fits nice however it came with half the embellishments broken. The keys on the front are hot glued on safety pins, which apparently didn't hold up in shipping, along with the chains as some of them were broken as well. Easy enough to remove and wear with a couple holes in it. Doesn't really hold up to the price.

I'm perplexed by this review. I've attempted to contact this buyer, but got no reply. I offered to repair her harness, send her a refund, or find another way to fix this situation, but she won't communicate. I always try to ensure that my customers are happy, and as you can see from the rest of the 5-star reviews for my harnesses, there usually isn't any problem with them. I've never heard of the harnesses arriving damaged for any other buyer. Also, I never use hot glue on any of my items.

Shipping
Shipping Times
Items are generally shipped out within 1-3 business days, sometimes the same day as the purchase!

US Shipping
US orders are mailed out via USPS Priority Mail with a Delivery Confirmation tracking number. Some listings include an inexpensive First Class shipping option. Domestic Priority Mail usually arrives within 2-3 business days, and First Class Mail usually arrives within a week.

International Shipping
International orders will be shipped via USPS First Class International Airmail, unless other arrangements are made. Airmail shipping to Canada usually takes 10-14 business days, and shipping elsewhere is often 14-20 business days. Sometimes packages can get delayed in Customs. I will provide a Customs Label Number which can be used to track the package, but it is not as robust as a domestic tracking number, and it can be difficult to track the package once it leaves the US.

Shipping Options
I'm pretty flexible on shipping. If you need an item very quickly, contact me before your purchase, and I'll look into Priority or Express Mail options for you. Alternately, if an item is listed with Priority Mail shipping, but you'd like to save a few dollars, and don't mind waiting longer, contact me before making a purchase, and I'll give you a quote for slower First Class shipping.

International Customs
If you regularly shop internationally, you're probably already aware that occasionally the receiving country will impose Customs Fees on packages. This happens rarely, but it is always a possibility when you order from outside your country. International import charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost for my items. I have no control over these Customs charges, and cannot predict what they may be. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. It's illegal to falsify customs declarations or mark an item as a "gift" in order to avoid customs fees.

Insurance
I am not responsible for uninsured packages. However, in the unlikely event that anything is lost or damaged in the mail, I'll do my best to help resolve the problem. Please contact me in advance if you'd like your invoice adjusted to include shipping insurance.

Confirmed Address
Your package will be mailed to the confirmed address you have on file with PayPal or Etsy. Please make sure this address is accurate.

WA Customers
If you live in WA, I'd be happy to give you a discount on shipping, and ship your purchase by First Class Mail instead of Priority Mail. You'll receive it in the same amount of time, and save a few dollars. However, if you'd like to do this, you'll need to contact me before you make a purchase, so that I can adjust the listing for you.
Refunds and Exchanges
I hope that you'll be completely satisfied with your purchase. If you have any problem with your order please contact me before leaving feedback - I'd like to make sure that you're happy!

Returns are possible, but they are handled on a case-by-case basis. Please make sure you read descriptions and measurements carefully before making a purchase. If you are interested in making a return, I will need to be contacted about it within 5 days of when you receive the item. If I somehow make a mistake with your order, I will fix it immediately at no additional cost. Please note that returns are not accepted on the steeply discounted "grab bag" items.

Please let me know if you ever have any problems with any of my items - your satisfaction is very important to me.
Additional policies and FAQs
Custom Orders
Please contact me if you're interested in having something custom made for you, or if you'd like a custom adjustment on anything in my store, and I'll be happy to see what I can do!

Seattle Area Events
I regularly vend at craft fairs and other events in Seattle, so please sign up for my mailing list at www.velvetmechanism.com if you'd like to hear about my upcoming events and have a chance to check out my creations in person!

Radioactive Watch Parts
There is a danger of radium (a radioactive material) in some vintage watch parts. I want to assure you that I have tested all of my materials with a Geiger counter, and all of them are NON-radioactive and safe, so you can feel secure buying Velvet Mechanism creations! The only other jewelry store I know of who tests for radioactivity is TheSteampunkTrunk.

Thank you so much for your interest and support!
