5 out of 5 starsLovely fibre! I enjoy Exmoor Blueface - a great all-rounder. Beautifully dyed - I love the variation in the shades and depth. I just know it'll make a beautiful yarn.

About VelvetSixpence
Velvet Sixpence
I've always loved sheep, and I've always knitted, in fact my only real lifetime ambition is to one day keep my own sheep. I started out on Etsy purely as a buyer of exquisite yarn. Then it sucked me in, and I took up spinning in order to be able to buy all the beautiful fluff on offer. Eventually I decided I just had to join in!
My shop opened in October 2012. I'd just finished a big quilting project and wanted to sell off my excess fabric. Between then and April 2014 I mostly let the shop lie idle, but then I made a momentous decision to take up dyeing yarn and fibre. I also started blending and carding batts to sell, and the shop took its first steps (under its previous identity).
I trained in Chemistry, and so spending my time mixing lots of coloured liquids together whilst wearing protective clothing comes naturally to me and I absolutely love it. It's one of the best creative outlets I've found for myself - it's like being a painter, except that you don't have to be able to draw!
By 2017, I had changed the name of the shop to Velvet Sixpence, and focused my efforts on fibre rather than yarn. I decided it was time to go out in public and attend wool shows as an exhibitor. I have never looked back. My business will never be huge, as I also have a (sometimes more than) full time day job, but it keeps me going when times are tough, and there is really no subsitute for the feeling of knowing that you've made things that bring joy to others.

Owner, Creator
I've always loved playing with colour, and I've always been addicted to all things ovine. Now I've found a way to mix the two, and I'm very pleased about it. I'm even more pleased that I'm able to share the fruits of my labours.
