    It's all about the stones.

I love rocks! I love that the earth is made of rock, so many different kinds of rock. I am amazed at what we can dig out of the earth and polish, revealing the wonderful colors, patterns, and textures. Even as a child I have been fascinated with rocks. My family camped a lot and I always ended up bringing at least one rock, or more, home from a trip. (I had boxes of rocks stashed in my closet.) I have learned about the different types of rocks, their formation and geology, in part because of raising two sons who often asked, "What kind of rock is this? How was it made?" And as an elementary teacher I taught earth science. I have traveled over much of the United States and recently retired to northern California in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where I have a studio looking into the woods on our property.

I thoroughly enjoy making one-of-a-kind jewelry featuring natural materials, semi-precious stones, minerals, pearls, coral, shell, bone, horn, and wood, as well as copper, silver and handmade glass, and ceramic beads. I have been creating jewelry for 14 years now. One of the joys of working with natural materials is the feel of the stones themselves, the cut, textures, and weight. I don't like plastic jewelry, manufactured in bulk by the thousands, to be worn by many. Plastic jewelry confuses me, it looks nice, but when I touch it I expect it to have weight and it doesn't. I like wearing something that has some weight to it, I know it is there and the stones feel good resting against my skin. The urge to use things found around us to adorn ourselves is in our history, going back 100,000 years starting with shells on a string. Personal adornment is one of our earliest art forms. What we choose to wear reflects our values, our sense of self. My jewelry is a celebration of all nature has to offer us. I appreciate the living earth we are a part of and strive share that with others through my jewelry. I love making beautiful, unique one-of-a-kind pieces and I hope you enjoy wearing them.
