Announcement   Veramix shop offers you fine art objects made in ceramics and mosaic. We also sell original mosaic pieces and beach pebbles as supplies.
Ceramic objects (and ceramic mosaic pieces) are made of stoneware clay (fired at 1200C) combined with glass, metal oxides, glazes and Egyptian fiance.
The mosaic objects are mostly wall-hangings made with a technique I have developed myself. I use my own custom-made ceramic pieces as well as smelt; beach glass; rocks - and any other objects (rusty nails and wire for example) that inspire me.
Beside having the aesthetic value the pieces are hardy durable and all-weatherproof. Which means they will last forever. Literally.

About

My art - for you!

Hi! I'm Vera! The artist behind Vera-mix!

I used to love to do puzzles. Especially the huge ones with a thousand pieces that stand on your table for days and that you keep coming back to.
Now I do mosaics. Sort of the same thing. Except that the picture is in your head. It appears as you work. And no one - not even you - know what it's going to look like when it's finished. (Well - you sort of have and idea - but it always surprises you!}
I am a mosaic artist. I am also a ceramic artist. And a painter. I have a BFA from School of the Museum of Fine Arts (an affiliate of Tufts University) in Boston.
For my career -life threw me into something else entirely. I have spent my working years as a translator interpreter journalist TV presenter foreign correspondent and TV news editor....and then I retired. And went back to my original love: art.
This shop is run by two people: me and my husband and soulmate Rade. (That's why his email is the one on top.) He is the manager the agent the accountant the salesman and the postman. And most importantly: the art critic.
I get to do only the one thing I love: create.
The shop consists of three sections: finished art - mine; and art supplies - yours to make your own art. I shall post a tutorial to show you - step by step - how to make beautiful mosaics. I have perfected a method by which you can make them flat or free-standing; you can make them on canvas or even on paper! My mosaics are light but sturdy and resilient weather resistant and can be built into walls and floors (in bathrooms for example) or they can be hung like paintings.
The most original part of my mosaics are the pieces. They are ceramic but not made in a conventional way: by breaking commercial tiles. I make the tiles myself. As a ceramic artist I have mastered the craft working in it for many years; tiles are a wonderful way to express yourself in ceramics! Yet - I take a hammer to my most beautiful tiles. And often to other pieces of my creation - other ceramic objects - that have come out of the kiln with a flaw.(Which in ceramics - considering the very high temperatures in the kiln is quite common.) A flaw that others might not even notice but is relevant to me. That also goes under the hammer. And gets recycled and a new life. Then the pieces go into a special tumbling machine we made from an old cement mixer where they tumble for hours and sometimes for days. They come out with their edges rounded and their shine and colors muted - looking just like the jewels you might find on the beach.
However we also have the genuine stuff: for years we had a summer home on the Adriatic coast in Montenegro. Beach combing every day we collected beautiful rounded pebbles shells glass and ceramic chard all rounded by the rolling and tumbling in the shallow watersof the sea. . We have quite a collection.
It's up to you and your sharp eye to guess which is which: genuine beach pebbles and seaglass or -genuine one of a kind -specially made for mosaic- pieces made by me.
Good luck!
PS: I also make ceramic jewelry that you might like. The old hippie from the sixties - I make necklaces to go with that styling. Everything is made by me: the pendants the beads and I even dye the string myself! You can buy an already made necklace or - you can buy the pieces watch the tutorial and make one yourself!

Wellcome to my shop!
Here you will find all you need to know about mosaics: you can buy an original mosaic or you can buy the pieces and make one yourself; soon I shall post a tutorial about the method I developed that is unique and totally my own - and easy and fun way to make wonderful light durable and portable mosaics.
I am starting with mosaic pieces and the ceramic jewelry which I make; gradually my shop will fill up with other precious finds that I'm certain you will enjoy. Come back often!
