Linden Song Artisan Jewelry- Hand Wrought Jewelry with Motion and Meaning

We started Linden Song Artisan Jewelry so that we would finally get the chance to work together doing the things we love, bringing our ideas from thought, to drawing, to finished piece. The design process is a sharing experience for us, where we discuss the deeper meanings behind the little things we see that mean something to us. We hope to share those feelings with y’all.

Vesna’s family only recently came here, and she is a first generation American with one foot still on old world soil where craftsmanship was of utmost importance, even in simple things. The women in her family were seamstresses making custom, luxury pieces, and her father made cheeses and cured fine meats. Attention to detail was instilled in her from her earliest days.

Though she graduated with a degree in biology and became an analytical chemist, she’s never felt as fulfilled as when she is bringing her ideas to life and making tangible things, designing things to be… airy, comfortable, sexy… but that can hold up to the chemicals and fire that she routinely works with.

I learned an appreciation for metalworking from my grandparents. My grandmother was a silver and gold smith, and my grandfather taught me stone cutting and polishing with the patience that only a Black Forest German could have managed. It took me many years to develop the patience and seriousness with which they approached their work. I shudder at the memory of some of the things I made as a teenager, but I’ve learned a lot and had plenty of practice since then.

As an archaeologist, I’ve not only spent years recreating artifacts for research, but I’ve learned an appreciation for the symbols that our ancestors used to share their experience with one another and with us.

Vesna and I share this fascination with the ancient stories told by those with a closer connection to the world. Together, we aim to craft jewelry that is both personally symbolic and meaningful in a broader way, something private and unique, but that still makes a statement others will understand. Whether it’s a rustic bronze piece that hints at a bit of wildness in your nature, or a delicate pierce work piece whose negative space hints at a greater emotional depth and vulnerability, we hope to perpetuate the sense of awe and gratitude that our predecessors felt when they looked up at the moon or out over the ocean and told their children what it all meant to them.

We take our inspiration from pieces ranging from the earliest periods of human civilization to fairly recent periods, and from the natural world that has ever been a source of wonder for us all. Some are simple, and some, while looking simple, are meant to carry many subtle layers of meaning. Some are meant to move with you, and some are meant to have a little, hidden touch somewhere, a little secret for you to wear right out there in the open.
