Some tools I use
Littera scripta manet
I am a master craftsman & artist from Finland.
Besides being a bookbinder by trade, I am also a lover of old books and all things related. I believe in antique rubbish, slow living, small pleasures and natural decay. In my books I want to convey the values I believe in - quality over quantity, one of a kind instead of mass produced. I prefer well chosen organic materials, both new and recycled, to avoid cluttering the Earth with rubbish and to ensure that each book will serve its owner for many years to come. While I use free range goatskin for most of my finer design bindings, I try to select recycled material for the less restricting work.
My work is a constant, slow process of inventing and learning, and it's become clear I never quite seem to "arrive". I have a wide range of interests, so I rarely commit myself to just one specific thing for a very long period of time. I like to hop on an off and most of my art is interdisciplinary as well. You can find more information about my creative processes by following my blog or my Facebook page.
If you didn't find what you were looking for in my Etsy shop, check out my website www.veterok.net where my main shop is (normally) located. If you're interested in a custom piece, don't hesitate to get in touch!

Shop policies
All the book blocks are handbound and hand-trimmed, not readymades bought from craft stores. Most of my books also feature sturdy, handsewn silk headbands with a core of leather or hemp cord - these add a unique touch and also support the book when you're pulling it from the shelf. If the book has endpapers, the book block is usually attached to the covers with mull and a protective hinge, which is made of leather or bookcloth. The hinge prevents the endpapers from unnecessary wear & abrasion caused by folding the book open and close. These are only a few of the many details that are featured in my books.
All my book necklaces are made of of repurposed leather, paper and cardboard - some of them are made of reclaimed material, and some of little scraps that bookbinders tend to produce when making larger pieces. These are very sustainable and earth-friendly items in which the only new part is the leather-like cord along with the metal ring that connects the cord to the book.
I got my own business ID in January 2010 and have been binding books for customers ever since.

Accepted payment methods
Returns and exchanges
Returns are accepted within the first two months after the purchase. Please note that I will not take returns after this period of time has passed; It is your responsibility to check the suitability of your purchase as soon as you receive it.
If the item you received is a wrong one or comes with flaws, cases such as...
- you get a different item than what was pictured and described to you in the listing
- the item is faulty, ie. it does not function or comes with tears, stains or other faults which I as a binder am responsible of
...you will get a full refund (selling price and shipping).
Unfortunately I can't refund or repair things damaged in the mail. I take great care in packaging the books. If damages occur, it is caused by incredible carelessness on behalf of the postal service and they are the ones who should be contacted about it.
Please note that I will not refund items that were custom made, unless they are faulty or not made according to the deal discussed beforehand. "I didn't like it" or "I changed my mind" is not a reason good enough for a full refund on a custom-made item. By purchasing a custom-made item you have agreed to pay for the work and materials that go into making of it.
LOST ITEMS
If the item gets lost in the mail, I can refund you the price of the said item but not its shipping costs. Please understand that my time and money is also in the book and if it goes lost, it is a loss both to the buyer and the maker, and I have to compensate it somehow.
ALTERATIONS TO OLD WORK
If you have previously purchased a book from me and later on want to have it altered (ie. cover, foreleaves or pages changed, details added), contact me about it and I can give you a quota.
Please note that I don't work for free.
If you wish to return a book or there is something wrong with your order, please send me a message and we'll discuss it further!

Shipping
When you're making a purchase make sure that your shipping info is correct: I can't be responsible for things that get lost/sent to a wrong address when you have provided me with wrong details in the first place. I will ship to the address that is provided in your Etsy profile - not the one in the PayPal receipt.
