Vice & Velvet is a one-woman show and that woman is me, Mei. Established in 2011 in Melbourne city, Australia, I combine the urban influence with my love for natural, sustainably sourced ingredients. I have been making soap and body products since my early teens, a passion that lasted over a decade before Vice & Velvet was born.

I formulate all my products entirely from scratch and never a pre-made "base". I keep formulations as simple as possible, only including ingredients that are beneficial to the skin or absolutely necessary for the physical and chemical stability of my products. My recipe book is protected by laser security and a giant three-headed dog named Cuddles.

For the "Vice" and "Velvet" ranges*, I create unique and sometimes unusual scent blends that are inspired by my surroundings; city life (e.g. Laneways, Black Jack Alley) and nature (e.g. Rockpool, Driftwood). I usually combine four to eight notes so the resulting scent is just that little bit more complex and one of a kind. It’s not that I dislike plain lavender, rose or vanilla straight out of the bottle; I just can't resist adding my own special touches to take a blend to the next level.

All my products are a labour of love, but none more so than my custom stamped soap favours. Over the years I have shipped thousands of these little guys to weddings all over the world, and it's always such an honour to be part of a couple's special day.

I believe in creating beautiful products with simple packaging, not the other way around. Production is my favourite part of Vice & Velvet because I enjoy getting my hands dirty, or rather, getting them clean. Every product is designed, made and packaged by the same two hands. It’s not just business, it’s personal.

{ All Vice & Velvet products are vegan-friendly. They contain no animal-derived ingredients, Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulphate (SLS), parabens or mineral oils. The soaps are also palm oil free. Tested on (human) friends and family only. }
