I connect unlikely materials into compositions with messages of social and environmental concerns.
From early childhood making things has always been a big part of my life. Now,I connect and upcycle recycled, redeemed, found materials with purchased art supplies to assemble angels and animals that carry messages of concern for all of us.I weave together art, science, technology, social, spiritual and environment with principles and elements of design to voice these silent visual messages. The narrative folk motifs are expressions of concerns related to cultures all over the earth. Traditional women's craft and art forms:crochet, weaving, sewing, twisting, coiling, wrapping quilting are some techniques used to connect unlikely parts. These folk designs and compositions convey a relationship with my pollinator garden,my strong belief in angels, our responsibility to appreciate and protect the beauty of the earth and leave the earth friendly for our posterity. The litter on our highways and in our waterways is a symptom of a deeper disregard of each other and the earth and communicates a need to connect for higher regards. I believe planting a garden, making art, appreciating the work of others will go a long way to end wars and enable us to find a way to connect and work together, nonviolently, no matter how unlikely the parts.
My education includes:BA Art Education K-12 Queens ,Charlotte; Advanced studies in Folk Arts Arrowmont,Tennessee; Advanced studies in Psychology and Seminary, Gardner-Webb University; Creative Writing, UNCCharlotte ; workshops with Craft persons and Artist; skills taught to me by family members and people that love me.
Through the years I have won awards in pottery, painting, collage/assemblage. In 2017 I earned Certification in NC Native Plant Studies at UNC Charlotte Botanical Garden.
