These masks are absolutely gorgeous! We used them at an environmental gala at guest photo booth (I purchased 10 different animal masks) with a large photo of a forest in the background. Everyone loved them, and the photos came out beautifully!!!
My focus is on transforming my pastel illustrations into objects that are practical AND fanciful to delight the child in all of us.
After graduating with a degree in Illustration from Parsons in NYC, I assembled a portfolio and traveled to appointments with art directors on my yellow Schwinn bicycle (dangerous, I know). I waited on tables in Greenwich Village at night to cover the rent and eventually got freelance illustration assignments from publishers and ad agencies. Pastels, a powdered pigment held together with a binder, have always been my preferred medium because of their richness of color and immediacy. My assignments have ranged from a poster for the Boston Flower Show to a calendar of food still lifes for a corporation in Tokyo.
When our son was born, my husband and I relocated to rural Warren County in New Jersey where we grew accustomed to the sound of crickets in August and cows grazing in our neighbor’s pasture. I continued with freelance illustration work and began to enter my art in juried exhibits. I'm inspired by the simple beauty and pleasures in everyday life.
Having my own Etsy shop allows me to be both art director and artist. Once I have the idea for a mask, a handmade book or a calendar to put in the shop, I will start making pencil sketches. I like to think that my imagery has a storybook quality that can appeal to the child in all of us. Once I'm satisfied with the basic design, I use my pastels, on special textured paper, to create a finished piece of art. The next stop is a visit to see my printer. Depending on the project, I will then need to get out my tiny scissors, archival glue, or thread and needle to complete the work.
