About

Jill of all trades, master of some!

My shop was created from necessity! I moved into a small home and found I had a LARGE home's worth of things that belonged to relatives and friends. Over the past 40 years I seemed to be the repository for all relatives "We certainly can't give this away, it is family" type goodies. I have checked with my kids and none of them are interested in "that old stuff", so I decided to try and find new loving homes. VintageHillbillies was born!

I have always lived in remote locations, seldom less than 50 miles from the nearest town. Gardening, cutting wood, living and working in the forest, raising my son in a healthy environment. I learned how to do repairs, plumbing, electrical, etc., because it was a minimum $100 trip fee for anyone to come and fix things. My husband and I both worked full time, but also built Pan Abode Cedar homes in our "spare" time. When you are young nothing seems impossible....therefore everything IS possible.

I have had a very interesting employment career. Began working for Municipal Government, then moved to Federal Government, the U.S. Forest Service to be exact. Spent a few years in the office environment and decided I was tired of typewriters and telephones and went to work in the field for the Road Crew. I worked as a fire dispatcher and on overhead fire teams working on fires in the Pacific Northwest.

Marvelous job if you enjoy being outdoors 12 months a year, from 100 degrees in the summer to -30 degrees in the winter. Every day was like a vacation, even though I worked hard.

When I retired from that, I started a soapmaking business! I lived in a tiny city of 500, the closest larger city of 20,000 is 40 miles away. NOT a lot of selling opportunity, so I created a web page and sold my handmade soaps, custom labeled wedding/bridal/baby shower favors and gift baskets around the world! During my "free time" I was a Certified Master Gardener for the Washington State University, visiting gardens and yards diagnosing plant diseases and problems, making recommendations.

My favorite chuckle while I was self-employed was when someone said "Hey, you work for yourself, you can work whatever hours you want" and I always replied "Yep,any 18 hours a day I want!"

Ten years and about 500,000 bars of soap later I decided it was time to relax a bit.

That is when I moved and discovered 20 people's things in my house that needed to go. Now my days start and end with Etsy! Researching vintage items is interesting if nothing else. I have many items I have yet to find anywhere and some I am not even sure what they are!

I recently made a move to Federal Way Washington to be near my son and his family. talk about culture shock!! from a population of 500 to a gazillion overnight! I am adapting to the noise, constant traffic and hustle. There are more cars in a grocery store parking lot than in the entire city I came from. And I really miss my awesome view of the Columbia river! I have left the photos of my prior home on here because a photo of the Federal Way mall isn't very interesting!!

I find Etsy a very friendly place to be; customers and other shop owners are always kind, helpful and fun to work with. If I ever run out of the "unending" supply of vintage from friends and family I will probably find myself out looking at other people's treasures so I can continue with Etsy!

Life is good!

Just a little " one-woman trying to clear out the basement and attic" operation here! Attempting to find new, loving homes for many very vintage items that belonged to relatives and friends. Far too much history goes to the dumpster these days!

Just a country gal, livin' the good life.

I have been in the Internet Business World since 1996. I live in a tiny community and the opportunity to market unique products is small. For 11 years I was a soapmaker (The SoapMeister) with brick&mortar shop and several Internet websites. I sold custom labeled favors for weddings, bridal and baby showers as well as other special events and have many former customers with whom I still keep in touch.
I closed my soap business thinking I wanted to retire, only to find a short time later that I miss the challenge and fun. Most of the items I am listing at this point come from family and friends. None of the younger members of our family are interest in “that old stuff”, and my house is full to bursting. I decided to take my show “on the road” so to speak in the hopes of finding folks who appreciate the vintage items.

I make it a practice to give as much information as I know about a product in my History portion of the listing. If I purchase this item from a stranger I will ask them about it if possible, but if I have no information I will post that. Most items are from friends and family members, and you will notice there are lots of little tidbits on the listings. This takes me a little more time to list, but I feel it is a nice for a potential buyer to know history if it is available. I also often search the Internet for information about items such as trademarks, mfg dates, etc. Often I will post a link to data for your information. I cannot guarantee to know everything about an item, but will never knowingly post inaccurate information. If you find a discrepancy in any listing please contact me and I will correct it. I appreciate the time and effort this would take.

Vintage items are not "new" and are subject to it's prior owner and use. I claim no expertise on the items, only the assurance of their being loved at one time!
I attempt to describe the article to my best ability, but often, in the case of Vintage, a few minute mars or scratches could be overlooked.

Where clothing/shoes are involved, check measurements. Bear in mind a size 5 in the 60's is about equivalant to a size 2 now. ASK for measurements if they don't appear in the description, it is an oversight. Poor fit is not a reason for return.

All Vintage Items sold are in "as-is" condition and are not applicable for refunds.

I never knowingly misrepresent items. I take many pictures, and describe any damage to the best of my ability. If you have questions, email and ask for particulars or pictures. I am more than happy to oblige. Ask before you buy!

DAMAGED IN SHIPMENT: Notify within 24 hours. KEEP all packaging. Take photos of damaged packaging, of the protective packaging we provided with the shipment and several views of the damaged item. We have to send all that information to the USPS and need clear photos of all this information for a timely claim process. You can attach photos to the CONVO page, or contact me for my private email address so you can attach several photos. Keep all the above materials until we hear from the PO. Several times there was a delay reimbursing and we discovered the claim had been lost/misplaced (PO words). So keep the evidence of your claim if we have to resubmit.

LOST: If your package is lost you need to notify me within a day or two of the date the package should have arrived, the sooner the better. Easier to find a package if the Carrier can remember the past day or two...NOT 3 weeks ago. We send you confirmation of shipping and the PO sends progress reports (via the Email you provide with your order) on the package until the package arrives at your door.

If the Postal Carrier shows "DELIVERED" on your confirmation tracking number, then your complaint is with the Post Carrier as it disappeared between when they say they delivered it and when you noticed you hadn't received it. I insure for safe delivery, but have no control if the Carrier leaves it at someone else's house or someone steals it off your porch.

NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES: Unless blatantly misrepresented in the item description, you purchased it, it is now yours. Sizes and/or measurements are part of the item description; failure to fit is not a flaw in the merchandise and not grounds for return.
Payment
** We accept Etsy's credit card processing system for your convenience.

** I accept Paypal as secure payment. Paypal accepts all major credit cards, and accept Direct Checkout through Etsy which accepts all major credit cards and Etsy Gift Cards.
Please confirm your address in Paypal and Etsy. Items are shipped to a confirmed Paypal and Etsy address.

** Credit card customers: you do not need a paypal account to pay via paypal. Just click the payment button and you have the option to pay with a credit card without signing up for paypal.

**NO OTHER PAYMENT methods are accepted at our shop.

* I am happy to reserve an item for up to 7 days.

LAY AWAY: On more expensive items you have the option to Lay Away. We require 35% down at time of lay away, and remaining cost/fees within 60 days. If payment is not made in full by 63 days or you change your mind at any point in the payment process - the item is re entered into our sales inventory and 50% of your funds are forfeited. Example: If you lay away an item for $100 plus shipping of $20, your down payment would be (at least) 1/3 of $100. or $35. Your final payment would be the $65 PLUS the $20 shipping.

If you FAIL to notify me you no longer want the item within 63 days, there will be NO MONEY refund. Bear in mind the item could well have sold during the time it was on hold for you.

Most items in the shop ship via USPS Priority Mail in the Continental US. If you are international, convo for rates to your specific country. Unless otherwise requested, I ship either USPS or UPS. Small items will ship via the postal service with confirmation delivery. I always purchase insurance and Confirmation Delivery on items. I email notify you of the Confirmation number and estimated time of arrival via the shipping agent.
