Although, I was able to finish the sweater, I had to create a boat neck instead because the lack of neck directions. very disappointed!

The neck can be completed following the directions in the pattern. I would have helped the buyer with this vintage pattern if she had contacted me letting me know she was having a problem.

About

Vintage Needle Arts Memories

I have been a life-long crochet, knitting and needlepoint needle arts addict and have collected knitting and crochet patterns for several decades. Now those patterns have become vintage treasured memories. Many of these patterns are classics that other crocheters and knitters should have a chance to enjoy before they disappear with the passing of time.

Most of these patterns were created by yarn companies that no longer exist such as American Thread, Bucilla, Unger, Reynolds, Brunswick, Columbia Minerva, and many others. As I prepare the digital version of each vintage pattern, I research the discontinued yarn and find a comparable replacement yarn that is available today. Each pattern includes at least a few yarn recommendations using currently available yarns. For anyone who would like to use the original yarn in the pattern, many of these old discontinued yarns can still be found on the Internet, on Ebay, Ravelry and Etsy, as well as other smaller lesser know websites.

I hope you enjoy using these patterns as much as I have.

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

VINTAGE SIZING FOR WOMENS CLOTHING:
How can you tell what your "vintage size" is? Very simply, the size of a vintage garment pre-1980s is roughly 6 dress sizes larger. That's right, SIX sizes LARGER. For example, if you wear a modern dress size 8, any vintage garment you should wear is a size 14.

Once you have measurements to go by, you will eventually find that most vintage sizes are fairly constant. A vintage size 14 generally has a 30" waist and usually fits a woman who is a size 8 in modern clothing. A waist size 28" is usually a dress size 12 or 13 in vintage dresses, which is a modern size 6. If you notice, these vintage sizes are almost always 6 sizes larger.

Vintage Yarns

All USA patterns listed in this shop were created before 1978 and most were published by yarn companies that are no longer in business. Vintage yarns used in these patterns can be found on Etsy, Ebay, Ravelry and other websites.

A lot of vintage patterns call for vintage yarns that have been discontinued. Contemporary yarns in the same weight and yardage can be substituted for the original vintage yarns. Most patterns include recommended yarn substitutions using contemporary yarn that is currently available.

I hope you find something you like and enjoy making.
