Announcement    Vintage On South Street specialises in quality clothing and accessories from the 20th century. You'll always find beautiful dresses from the 1940s and 1950s here, as well as romantic mid-century nightgowns and loungewear. I also have a real passion for collectible Whiting & Davis metal mesh items, so you'll see their halter tops, bags and accessories in my shop from time to time.

As a wearer and collector of vintage items, I have a great eye for quality and I'm diligent when it comes to presenting items for sale in their best possible condition: clean and ready to wear, with any flaws described in detail.

I hope you'll find something to love in my shop, and please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

**Shipping update**
Items are shipped using Australia Post Parcel Post (domestic) and Australia Post Standard Airmail (international). Both of these services include full tracking. Due to global delays caused by the pandemic, it may take a bit longer than usual for you to receive your package, but the tracking enables you keep tabs on your order as it makes its way to you. International buyers can also upgrade to Express International for a small extra fee, available on all of my listings.

If you have any questions or special requests, please feel free to reach out to me!

About VintageOnSouthStreet

Sales 289
On Etsy since 2019

Hello and welcome to my Etsy shop! My name's Lucinda and I'm obsessed with all things vintage.

For the last several years I’ve been building up a sizeable vintage clothing collection, but I can’t keep it all for myself! I love hunting down amazing vintage finds and I want to be able to share them with others around the world – particularly here in Australia where good vintage can be hard to come by.

Everything for sale in my Etsy store is either from my own wardrobe or has been carefully chosen for the shop, reflecting my own aesthetic preferences.

My shop is quite small because I have another full-time job that keeps me busy, and I also like to take a lot of time to research, photograph, and accurately describe each piece as thoroughly as I can. And if it's possible, I love being able to nail down the exact year that a piece was made by finding its original advertisement in newspaper archives – you'd be amazed at what you can find, and lots of my listings include this historical info – it's endlessly fascinating to me!

I love wearing vintage for so many reasons: its superior quality, its character, its durability, its drama, and the fact that's a tangible link to the past and to the people who came before us. I hope you'll find something to love in my shop, and please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Frequently asked questions
How do I best care for my vintage item?

Vintage clothing generally requires a little more care to clean and look after than modern clothes – but unlike modern clothing, vintage is often made from high quality, durable materials and will last for many more years with proper care. I am experienced when it comes to cleaning vintage, and I include care and/or cleaning recommendations with all purchases from my store.

Are your items clean and ready to wear?

Yes – I strive to present my items for sale in their best possible condition. This means that I do any repairs that are required (anything more complicated than a button or hem is done by my tailor), and I also clean the item if it can be cleaned safely. I almost always hand wash cotton dresses, lingerie and nightgowns, and swimsuits, and I condition any leather items such as belts and bags. If an item has been cleaned by me it will be noted in the description.

I'm really fussy about the condition of my vintage and excessive cleaning can be sometimes be too harsh on garments and cause them to wear out prematurely. I try to avoid dry cleaning for this reason. If an item has not been cleaned, this will also be noted in the description.

How are your vintage items stored?

Items for sale in my store are kept in breathable acid-free cotton storage bags to protect them from light, dust and other hazards.

Any wool or cashmere items that come in to my store are cycled through my chest freezer (yes, I have a chest freezer that is just for vintage woollens!) for two weeks to ensure they are free of any potential moth damage.
