About vintagewise

My office, filled with things I love -family photos, art by my sister, Janet Hill, & Marmeecraft, & of course, vintage ♥
-
a piece of my heart goes out with each treasure I sell- some things I miss more than most, like these antique earrings ♥

I have a thing for roadside attractions...here I am hugging "The World's Largest Apple"

Rescued from an attic, this 1940s gown went from sooty grey to sparkling white, my first restoration ♥
I somehow fell into this. I had no idea I would fall in love so quickly or so completely, but here I am, two decades since my first venture into vintage, and I still love every bit of it.
Oddly enough, history wasn't my favorite subject -- so dull having to memorize what war happened when, following a curriculum someone else deemed important. Now, I can't get enough of it. I love the parts I get to play...detective, scientist, explorer/adventurer, curator, appreciator, & preservationist. Each little object I find sends me down a rabbit hole through time, scouring antiquarian archives for clues & examining each piece with microscopic intensity until its secrets are revealed. Maybe I'm just the nose-in-a-book nerd I've always been, but I think this is great fun:)
There is so much beauty in the world. We come from a rich history of incredible artisans and talented craftspeople. I love finding these forgotten parts of history, the pieces worth preserving. And I love each and every one of you for giving me this grand adventure. Because I can seek & discover to my heart's content, send these little treasures off to their loving new homes, and then begin the adventure all over again. So thank you, from the bottom of my vintage-loving heart <3

Shop policies
I'm Maya, the finder, photographer, researcher, shipping engineer, etc...whatever you need here, I'm your go-to gal. It's never a dull moment, and I enjoy all of it, from finding great vintage to making sure you get your item quickly and nicely wrapped. I believe kindness is the best policy, and I never forget for a moment that without happy customers I wouldn't love what I do or be able to do what I love.
Accepted payment methods
Returns and exchanges
I gladly accept returns, exchanges, and cancellations
Returns and exchange details
Due to the delicate nature of antique jewelry, all fine jewelry returns must be sent back fully insured and securely wrapped, and if there are any security tags attached, they must be intact in order to receive a full refund. If the security tag has been removed or tampered with, a 20% restocking fee may be charged. Other than this, I never charge a restocking fee.
Shipping
For international buyers, it's important to know your local government may charge additional taxes or fees on your purchase. These are not charged by Vintagewise and often aren't included in the purchase price, so before you purchase, please be aware that any taxes, Customs charges, duties, and/or collection fees, if any, are the responsibilty of the buyer.
I carefully and lovingly pack each item, and thus far they've all arrived safe and sound, but just in case, all items are insured for the full purchase price including shipping. If your item arrives damaged, please notify me within three days of receipt, and please save all of the packaging including the shipping box and packing materials, as the insurance company will need photographs of these in order for me to file the claim on your behalf.

Return Policy
I would never want you to keep something that wasn't right for you, so I accept returns for any reason as long as the item is mailed back in the original, unused condition within one week of receipt (buyers in the EU: please contact me within 14 days of receipt if you wish to return your item).
Shipping costs aren't refundable unless I've made a mistake in the listing, and if that ever happens, I'll reimburse you for the shipping cost plus the full purchase price as soon as I've received the item.
For more details, please visit the "View Shop Policies" link shown above.
Do you offer layaway / payment plans, or can you reserve an item for me?
Yes, I'm happy to reserve items up to one week, and I also offer layaway if more time is needed.
10% down reserves the item, and for the remaining balance, you may choose weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly payments split over a 1, 2, 3, or 4 month period, whichever works best for you.
I know sometimes unexpected expenses may arise, so I allow one grace period/deferred payment per layaway term; otherwise, payments must be made in a timely manner. If a customer defaults on more than two payments, the layaway will be canceled and the down payment forfeited. Layaway items are only returnable for store credit.
Out of fairness to all buyers, please note I can no longer reserve items for longer than one week without a deposit.
Can you mark this as a gift on the customs form, or put in a lower value?
I'm sorry, as much as I would like to keep your fees as low as possible, I can't lie on the customs form. Not only is this illegal, it would also void the shipping insurance.
Plus, there isn't even an option to mark something as a gift because this part is pre-filled on Etsy's shipping labels -- and it's not something sellers can change -- so whenever I send something overseas, it's automatically marked as merchandise on the customs form.
On the bright side, some countries don't charge customs fees on antique and used/vintage items. The rules vary from country to country, so please check with your local customs department to see what they may be.
When will my purchase arrive?
I ship within one business day of payment, so if you're in the US, you'll have it within a week (for First Class packages), 2 -3 days (for Priority Mail), or 1-2 weeks for Media Mail and Parcel Post. You get to choose the shipping option you prefer. Expedited overnight/ Express mail is also available upon request, and I can often ship the same day.
Overseas buyers can expect their order to arrive within 2-3 weeks for First Class or within 6 to 10 business days for Priority Mail, sometimes sooner or later depending on how quickly it gets through Customs.
Insurance is always included, and the tracking number is automatically emailed to you so you can keep an eye on it. Purchases over $500 will require a signature upon delivery.
What if my item arrives damaged, or what if it's lost?
No worries...I'm here to help! And gladly, I've always had good luck with the post office so this has never been issue.
I carefully and lovingly pack each item, and so far they've all arrived safe and sound, but just in case, your purchase is always insured against loss or damage for the full amount including shipping. If by chance your item arrives damaged, please notify me within three days of receipt, and please be sure to save all of the packaging, including the shipping box and packing materials. I will file the insurance claim for you, and I'll need photographs of the damage and packing materials in order to file the claim.
How do you package your items?
Carefully and thoughtfully, wrapping them so they'll arrive intact while also minimizing the environmental impact.
I reuse shipping boxes & packing supplies but only if they're clean and sturdy. I keep all plastic use to a minimum, using only recycled tape (made from 50-65% recycled plastic) and clean reused bubble wrap if necessary. All of the new shipping boxes, tissue paper, and kraft paper I use are made from post-consumer recycled content and can be recycled again.
And I especially love how Etsy offers 100% offset carbon-neutral shipping, another reason to feel good about shopping here:)
Size / resizing details
Detailed measurements are included in every listing to hopefully help you figure out if something will work for you prior to purchase, but just in case, I'm also happy to accept returns if something isn't a perfect fit for you. Please visit the "view shop policies" link above for further details on my return policy.
For jewelry, I can advise you on whether or not a ring can be resized, but I'm not a jeweler so I'm not personally able to do the resizing for you. Depending on the item, I may be able to offer a small discount towards the cost of resizing, so please don't hesitate to ask:)
Care instructions
If you're unsure how to give your purchase proper care, just ask! I've spent more than 20 years researching, wearing, enjoying, & selling antique and vintage items with a special focus on antique jewelry and vintage fashion, and I'm always happy to offer advice ♡
Antique jewelry often requires special care and should never be worn while swimming, showering, washing dishes, etc. Please take the time to learn about your special piece and insure it if needed. My insurance only covers up to the point of delivery, so please note I cannot be liable for any damage that may happen after you get your item. The good news is these pieces were made to last. They've already survived 100 years or more and can last another lifetime with care ♡
Gift wrapping and packaging
Complimentary gift wrap is available upon request ♡
Please just let me know the occasion and if you have any special requests regarding the color of the ribbon or gift wrap, what you'd like written on the gift tag, etc.
Unless noted otherwise, the jewelry boxes and other display items in the listing photos are not included, but I am happy to include a free gift box upon request with any jewelry purchase.
