I no longer have the record the custom label was for so I can’t post a picture but I was impressed with the way the label was applied. It really made the record pop out when pulling it out of the sleeve. Pictures to come next time!

Unfortunately, I no longer have the record in my possession and in the end it slipped my mind to take a picture. I will say this, though, the quality of the records are amazing. Pulling it out of the sleeve you feel like you’re holding onto something that a lot of work went into. It didn’t feel flimsy or like it was going to crumble in my hands. The sound is great too. I’m no audiophile so my set up isn’t crazy, but I thought the sound was great when I played it on my turntable. I’m very impressed with the overall quality of the record as well as the communication with Nicole who was very helpful throughout the entire process. I’ll be putting in another order soon and will be sure to include pictures of those in their respective reviews.

About

Mixtape on Vinyl

Welcome to our Etsy store.

We offer vinyl lovers and enthusiasts a way to put their best playlists on a 12", 10" or 7" hi-fi stereo vinyl record. We offer custom label options and each record ships with poly paper sleeve and a choice of (plain) jacket. Please read through our FAQ's and guidelines prior to or just after purchase so you are familiar with the process before you begin.

It is very simple: you choose your vinyl, you upload your songs (or send us your song list), you choose label option and style of jacket and viola! you will receive a playable vinyl "master" (or "one off") of your own creation. Your first step is to add up the running time of your playlist (in minutes and seconds), determine which songs go in what order per side and then order the right vinyl size.

Each record is 180g vinyl cut on a lathe in real time (not pressed).
Your record will last for several hundred plays over many years, even decades, with proper care.

Feel free to ask us anything related to sound quality but, sorry, we won't reveal anything about the lathe set up.

After you purchase:
Once you buy, you will see a message that tells you where to upload your song files.
If you would like us to purchase your song list (songs MUST be available on ITUNES) we will send you an invoice for $1.30 per song + a (one time) $5.00 after you order and send us your playlist. Please send us a Custom Order Request (button in every listing and on the front page).

Turn around is 2 weeks for most orders --contact us if you need a rush order and let us know where you are located. Rush orders are billed an additional $30-$50.

Please read our FAQ's/Guidelines below and note that more detailed instructions will follow after purchase. We are here to guide during the process.

Thank you!

Guidelines (for those who send us their song files):

1) Audio Formats we accept:

Digital files:

iTunes has the best sounding files for our vinyl service.
.m4a is the filetype.
(.m4p files will not work - they are copy-protected)

Amazon and Google Play will sell you .mp3 files.
.mp3 is much lower quality that .m4a
.mp3 is not recommended for vinyl.

Even better than .m4a files are un-compressed files like:
.wav
.aif
Or flac

HOWEVER; please do not convert mp3 or m4a files to .wav, .aif or flac. Conversion will not improve the sound of your mp3 or m4a files.

If all you have is .mp3 files you can send them and we will cut them to vinyl --- it will work, but it is not ideal.

2) Naming your song files: (VERY IMPORTANT)

A)Create a new folder on your desktop for your song files.
B) Put your song files in the folder.
C) Name that folder with your Name and your Order Number for example:
"JohnSmith123456789”

D) Now open the folder and edit the names of the songs:

For Side A songs put an A1, A2, A3 etc. at the FRONT of the song file name.
(for example: If the filename is "thismusic.mp4” and if it's the first track on 'Side A' change the name to "A1 thismusic.mp4 ")

E) For Side B songs do the same thing using B1, B2, B3 etc...

So now every song name BEGINS with the Side (A or B) and the sequence number it will play on the record (1,2,3…)
Examples: ”A1 Proud Mary.mp4 " or “B3 White Christmas.mp4”.

IF YOU ARE NOT PURCHASING A CUSTOM LABEL YOU MAY SKIP TO STEP 4!

3) Custom labels: DIY or CUSTOM

If you purchased a CUSTOM LABEL (see store for custom label option) please send us your artwork + the EXACT text you want on the label + a description of how you want it all laid out, in an ETSY CONVO. We will send you a proof before printing.

If you purchased a DIY label:

The template for 12" and 7" (small hole) is here: http://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/b37440_11ed067090804a4aa9dd51346219344d.pdf
The template for 7" large hole is here:
http://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/b37440_ffe08cac962a4e7ca664121e32324204.pdf

Please put a copy of your final layered art file or a 'flattened' pdf, jpg or png in a folder called “yourNAME Art”.
Don’t forget to TURN OFF the cut lines and please do NOT knock-out the center hole!!!

Folder naming example: “johnSMITH Art”.

Now put that 'Art' folder into the folder you made for your music and then:

4) EVERYONE ----Please ZIP the folder!

Zipping the folder will make the upload easier for you and make the download and sequencing of your tracks easier for us. Please cut and paste the links below in your browser for directions on how to zip your folder.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Every order is a custom product but if you have any special requests or specific questions regarding a short run or one off do not hesitate to contact us here on Etsy. We now offer custom jackets from $20-$35.00 by request only.

What exactly is lathe cut?

Every record that is made (pressed) is first lathe cut as a "master" and the short and easy answer is: we simply offer a lathe cut record as a final product. We do not press records.

My playlist exceeds your MAX side length limit, what are my options?

Consider ordering a double record set if you don't want to shorten your playlist.

I make my own music and would like to purchase a short run (1-20) Can you do this and is there a price difference?

If you are a recording artist or a label and have the direct rights to your music feel free to order one of the short runs we offer here on ETSY OR if you would like a shorter/longer run then contact us here and we can discuss your options.

What files do you accept? What sounds best?

1) Audio Formats we accept:

Digital files:

iTunes has the best sounding files for our vinyl service.
.m4a is the filetype.
.m4p files will not work - they are copy-protected. If your files are copy protected in Itunes it means you have exceeded your copy limit. Please delete them from your library and re-purchase them.

Amazon and Google Play will sell you .mp3 files.
.mp3 is much lower quality that .m4a
.mp3 is not recommended for vinyl.

Even better that .m4a files are un-compressed files like:
.wav
.aif
Or flac

HOWEVER; please DO NOT convert mp3 or m4a files to .wav, .aif or flac. The conversion will NOT improve the sound of your mp3 or m4a files.

If all you have is .mp3 files than you can send them and we will cut them to vinyl.

I just found you and need it really fast! Is this possible?

We do offer a rush service for $30-$50 depending upon when you need it and the status of the queue at the time of your order. Expedited shipping is an additional cost. Please write us on Etsy letting us know where you are, what you would like to order and we will get back to you ASAP.

Care instructions

Make sure and store your vinyl properly and that your record player needle is clean. If you have an automatic record player make sure and put it on manual when playing your custom vinyl record.

What is the difference between a sleeve and a jacket?

Many people confuse the SLEEVE for the JACKET. The sleeve slips over the vinyl and into the outer jacket.

Anatomy of a record: vinyl (record) label (center "sticker") sleeve and jacket.

I don't know the difference between 33 1/3 and 45 RPM. What should I choose?

Most record players play both 33 1/3 and 45 RPM. Most people cannot hear the difference between 33 1/3 and 45 RPM. To learn more please read this great blog on
the differences: https://blog.electrohome.com/vinyl-record-speeds-33-45-78-mean

If you can't decide or don't know what player it will be played on then order the 33 1/3RPM.

Can you purchase the songs for me?

YES, we can but ONLY if the songs are available in Itunes.
Please make sure they are before purchasing your vinyl.

We charge 1.29 per song + 5.00 (so, say, 10 songs would be 12.90 + 5.00 = $17.90)

1) Add up your song list. Here is a handy time calculator you can cut and paste in your browser https://www.timecalculator.net/

2) Order the vinyl from our store that has the right side length

3) Send us a Custom Order Request letting us know you have ordered your vinyl and would like to us to buy your songs on Itunes (detailed instructions will follow).

4) In ETSY convos send us your song list. Please include the following:

SONG NAME, ARTIST NAME, ALBUM NAME

Let us know if you have ANY questions!
