Vinyl Design is our Australian adventure and this is our story...

When Italian-born architects Julia Fantini and Stefano Cottini moved to Sydney in 2009 for work, they immediately fell in love with the sparkling harbourside city. So, with the sun in their eyes and the wind on their cheeks, they took a lease on a Sydney apartment, and like most creative couples, began dreaming up ways to add some personality to their space. Sadly their real estate agent was not sympathetic: the terms of the lease were clear. NO paint, NO wallpaper and NO banging in hooks.
Not to be deterred, these enterprising Italians put their heads together and decided on a solution: removable vinyl wall decals, to spice up their decor. Only problem was, there wasn’t much in the way of vinyl decals for adults available in Australia – it was mostly a kids’ thing. So they created their own.
And how they loved the effect! And so did their visitors! After some prompting from friends, Julia and Stefano worked up a small range, produced a limited run and started selling them online.
Within a year, Julia had left her full-time job to concentrate on Vinyl Designs (learning a whole lot about small business in the process!). After repeated requests from customers, they branched out into kids’ motifs and now their range includes options for all ages and tastes.

Julia describes the Vinyl Design approach as “fresh and humorous” first and foremost. They’re big on whimsy, with nature motifs like plants, florals and animals. She and Stefano enjoy creating funny characters like their chubby birds, echidnas, sausage dogs - designs that bring a smile to people’s faces.

At the same time, their background in architecture has inspired clean, urban designs like their barcode, Eiffel Tower and city skyline. Retro is represented with old-school computer game characters, and Japanese motifs abound: geishas, samurai, cranes, cherry blossoms and lanterns.
Kids can enjoy robots, elephants, bunnies, penguins and cute wall height charts featuring giraffes and monkeys.
There’s also a selection of chalkboard decals so you can write your shopping list or reminders on a wall via a charming teapot or birdhouse cut-out.

Vinyl Design decals use a low-tack adhesive which means they’re easily removed from walls without stripping the paint, thereby keeping real estate agents around Australian happy.
