Do to changes from Covid, international shipping times can not be guaranteed. We are seeing shipping times and customs holds in certain countries take much longer than we are accustomed to. Tracking of packages internationally can also painfully slow to update online. We highly recommend upgrading to Priority Mail for international shipping if possible. Shipping times seem to be getting better for many places however slow downs still occur.

About WalltownPens

On Etsy since 2017

The journey of the creation of Walltown Pens began after my husband took a pen turning class. He came home excited to show me what he made and to share all of the tips and tricks he learned in class. We were both hooked.

Within a few days, we purchased a lathe, gouges, pen kits, and blanks. We had a lot of fun experimenting with assorted combinations of wood and acrylic pen blanks with different styles of pen kits and creating segmented blanks using unusual materials like the metal from soda cans. Then we started asking ourselves, “What else could we try?” That’s when we started turning bottle stoppers, bowls, platters, clocks, trinket boxes, and honey dippers. (Can’t wait to see what we will come up with next.)

As we started sharing our creations with friends and family, they kept saying, “These are extraordinary.” “You have amazing talent.” “Who knew you were so creative?” “When are you going to start selling them?” That’s where the idea for starting our business was born. After selling several items and receiving such positive responses on a Pen & Wood Turners’ blogs, we decided to take the leap.

What should we name our business? Weeks passed, as we tossed around different ideas, but none of them felt right. One weekend we stopped by the local farmers’ market and craft bazaar. On our way home, we saw signs for places in the surrounding area (Bull City, Brightleaf, Old West Durham, etc.). The signs sparked an idea. We should incorporate the name of our community into the name of our business.

The section of town we live in is known as Walltown. It is a historic community with rich ties to Durham and Duke University. Walltown has a lot of meaning to us. Our house is a just few blocks from the former site of Watts Hospital, where we were both born. Shortly after we were married, we moved into our home. We often say, “We came back to our beginnings”.
To pay tribute to the area we’re from, we decided to name the business Walltown Craftworks. Our hopes are for our business to grow and to prosper from its humble beginnings in the same way Walltown did.

We hope you enjoy the keepsakes you purchase as much as we enjoy creating them. Thank you for being part of our journey.

Herbin is the oldest name in pen inks in the world. "La Perle des Encres" (The Jewel of Inks") was created in 1700. "L'Encre des Vaisseaux" ("Ship's Ink") was produced at an unknown date before then.
