About

Unique Hand-Dyed Yarns

I am a knitter, dyer, occasional spinner, terrible sewer, coffee fanatic, hiker, traveler, tinkerer, and connoisseur of color. I'm the indie dyer behind Wandering Wool and I work out of my home studio in Gaithersburg, MD. My yarns reflect my love of the outdoors, enthusiasm for color, and spirit of adventure.

I’ve been knitting nearly my whole life. During college and later during my first career as a researcher and project manager for a small Washington DC think tank, knitting became a portable source of entertainment and a major stress relief. Although I loved that my job took me on many international trips, most of them to Africa, I didn’t love all the hours spent in an office and I longed for something more creative. So I returned to knitting with a vengeance, in no small part because I could take it anywhere, even places without modern amenities like electricity.

In 2011, I turned to dyeing my own yarns out of a love for mixing and pairing different colors. The yarn soon started to take over my house and my life and I realized that it was time to devote myself to it full time. After several years of working out of a small Washington DC apartment with yarn stuffed in every nook and cranny, a move to the suburbs gave the business more room to grow and allowed for gardening and backyard chickens as well.
