We created a new tray for putting boards together. This is a shot of one of the pieces of wood being drilled to create the tray. This shot of the drilling just catches the beauty of woodworking.

About

From Wands and Swords to Cutting Boards

Our shop began at the suggestion of a family member seeing wands made as toys for our children in a Facebook post.

It was 2009 and we attended the renaissance festival. Money was tight and our three boys desperately wanted the wands and swords sold at various kiosks. We convinced them that wands and swords made by Dad would be much better than any we could buy that day.

They went for it and Josh set out to make wands and swords from scrap wood with only a belt sander to shape the wood with. The boys were thrilled with these toys, though Josh felt he could do better. He kept making them and started selling on Etsy. He displayed his work at a small holiday shopping event his work held and gained more confidence and purchased a lathe.

Over time Josh has continued to evolve his work. As wands began to be less popular, he was already working on bottle stoppers, bottle openers, ice cream scoops, and pizza cutters for the kitchen. He evolved further to cutting boards and dabbled a little with cheese planers and bread knives. Ultimately Josh settled into cutting boards as our primary product.

His cutting boards were noticed by a local restaurant in the process of opening a new location. After creating sample tables that had the look of his cutting boards, he was given the job to create the tables. You can find his tables at Root Down DIA in terminal C if you every fly out of Denver, CO.

We continue to participate in shows (Fine Art or Craft) in the Denver area, mountain towns, and front range area. Three local stores also carry our boards.

About the boards:

The wood in our cutting boards is joined using FDA approved TiteBond lll wood glue and it is finished with a natural food grade mineral oil, making it 100% safe for food contact.

We try to use reclaimed or rescued wood as much as possible. This means that each board is a unique creation. The boards you see through out our store are pieces that we have created recently and are not the board you will receive. Please let us know if you see a particular color scheme you would like us to replicate. We do our best to match based on wood available to us.

The majority of our pieces are crafted from hardwoods rescued from local hardwood wholesaler’s scrap heap. Your cutting board may contain any of the following species of wood: African Mahogany, Alder, Ash, Bloodwood, Bubinga, Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba), Chechen, Cherry, Curly Cherry, Domestic Mahogany, Domestic Walnut, Hickory, Maple, Padauk, Peruvian Walnut, Purple Heart, Red Oak, Red Grandis, Rustic Walnut, Sapele, Soft Maple, Teak, White Oak, Wenge.

All they need is a good home :) Thanks for stopping by and we hope you enjoy our work!

As a child I worked with my father on woodworking projects. It was a love that I rediscovered in 2008 with my boys. Reigniting my creativity has been a joy! I create unique functional art from wood that I rescue from going to trash.
