Irene Stapleford: paintings, prints, felt accessories

West Concord, Massachusetts | 78 Sales

Announcement    Thanks for visiting. Consider giving original art as a unique and memorable gift. For the Holiday Season, 2020, I'm offering a special -- free shipping for small paintings. Interested in multiple pieces? Contact me for pricing, happy to offer a reasonable discount for purchases of multiple paintings. Delight your friends and family with original art.

I am moved to paint in response to landscape, daydreams, and moments observed or half remembered. Atmospheres of layered colors, patterns, and organic geometries such as tree branches are juxtaposed with subtle, unexpected, digitally manipulated image transfers. Compositions often occur to me during the transition from consciousness to sleep. Somewhere between reality and dreaming, these open-ended narratives convey drama, stillness, visual pleasure, and gentle humor.

For more artwork, visit me at my art web sites, irenestapleford.com & wantknot.etsy.com, and follow me on Instagram at irene.stapleford.

A practicing artist and graphic designer, Irene Stapleford earned her BA and MFA in fine art. She has taught classes in both fine art and graphic design at the deCordova, the Worcester Museum of Art, Greenfield Community College, and the University of Southern Maine.

Please contact me for more accurate custom shipping quote to your location in the U.S. or internationally. Any image in my shop can be printed as an affordable, limited edition archival print or greeting card, just ask or use the art card or digital print listings, and specify which images you'd like.

Painting, sewing, composing color and form

My etsy shop is a venue for sharing images of artwork. Everything I make is an investigation and celebration of color and form. I find never-ending inspiration in tree branches; sudden compositions, images and colors from my mind's eye; dreams; landscapes, skies, birds and trees observed while driving, walking, or just looking out my windows.

I paint outside, en plein air, and in my basement studio, where I can lay out several panels at once and spread coat after coat of acrylic medium and atmospheric colors. I sometimes use painter's tape to mask patterns of triangles or stripes. For the image transfer process, I employ photoshop and a color laser printer to enlarge and color enhance my own drawings or scans of vintage images.
