Inspired by landscapes, dreams, and memories, I make paintings incorporating energetic gesture, layered color, organic geometry such as tree branches, triangle or dot patterns, and sometimes digitally manipulated figures or objects via image transfer.
Upstretched arms of tree branches, tracing imperceptible yet undeniable growth and linear form, has been a recurring theme, both in landscape and abstraction. Working outside painting directly from the subject allows particular, distinct tree “personalities” to emerge. Trees affect quality of life, yet are overlooked and underappreciated: unsung climate change heroes, property value anchors, intelligent elders, and constant, gracious companions.

I know I keep saying this but the quality of her work is truly the best. I love the way this piece feels in my hands. I am very particular about what I hang in my home, especially in areas others will see and I already know I will be back to purchase more art from Irene for my new home once I move. That’s what Irene’s work does, it tells a story! I am one that is hesitant to purchase artwork online but I took a chance on Irene’s work and I am so very happy I did. You are truly getting quality artwork. She is also a master packer so you can be sure your artwork will arrive safely. Best packing I’ve ever seen!

This year I decided I needed decor for a yoga room in the making and I instantly thought of this piece. To my delight it was still available! I love the peaceful om humpty. Work tables are arranged at waist height all around the room, with storage shelving underneath and brown paper on top. -

Sometimes I mask shapes or stripes using blue painters tape, hand cut and placed. -

I paint with color glazes, then peel the tape right away so I can quickly fix missed areas or edges. -

Multiple panels can be spread out for application of background colors. Yogurt containers hold water and acrylic medium.
Painting, sewing, composing color and form
My etsy shop is a venue for sharing images of artwork. Everything I make is an investigation and celebration of color and form. I find never-ending inspiration in tree branches; sudden compositions, images and colors from my mind's eye; dreams; landscapes, skies, birds and trees observed while driving, walking, or just looking out my windows.
I paint outside, en plein air, and in my basement studio, where I can lay out several panels at once and spread coat after coat of acrylic medium and atmospheric colors. I sometimes use painter's tape to mask patterns of triangles or stripes. For the image transfer process, I employ photoshop and a color laser printer to enlarge and color enhance my own drawings or scans of vintage images.
