These pieces of jewellery have been designed with strong influences from life & death, nature & the animal world. They each have a story. Sometimes these involve the animal a bone has come from, or the uncertain future of a species of insect. Sometimes it's the story of the country it was found on. Sometimes it comes from the person who gave it to me. Whatever it is, when you wear these pieces they serve as a salient reminder of our connection and responsibility to this transient world.

I was taught silversmithing as a child & young teenager by my grandmother, who was an established silveremith & lapidary in the Perth hills. I then studied a Diploma in Art, Craft & Design with a major in Jewellery Making, in Tasmania. I have also studied units of Botany and Zoology at the University of Tasmania, & I have a Bachelor of Nursing Science.

I've had studios in both Western Australia & Tasmania & been privileged to know & work with some truly inspirational artists. I aim to refine & expand on the skills & knowledge that was passed on to me, to make heirloom pieces that can outlive us all.

Wax & Bones jewellery is made by hand from my home studio in Perth. All the specimens I use are found, usually by me but occasionally they're gifts. I never harm animals to make jewellery. In keeping with my general love of DIY, sustainability & the environment, I upcycle old silver chains & metal whenever I can.

If I have to buy metal I do it through A&E metals, who pride themselves on their dedication to recycling silver from scrap to minimise the impact of silver mines. Most of the metal I get from them is 100% recycled. They have also implemented methods of reducing chemical & power use in the metal refining process.

On occasion I outsource casting to Palloys casting house in Sydney. They also use metal from A&E, & they're one of Australia's oldest casting houses. They cast high quality rough pieces, which are exact copies of the originals I send them. I still finish these pieces off by hand myself with sawing, sanding, soldering, forging & shaping, link making, chain work, patina & polishing.

I design and make Wax & Bones jewellery. My inspiration comes from life and death, from nature and the plants and animals around me.

Production partners

  • Palloys

    Sydney, NSW

Palloys is Australia's oldest casting house. They have an excellent reputation and produce high quality moulds and lost wax casts. They make many of my moulds and cast some of my pieces when demand is high, though all designs remain my own.
