Everyone needs a studio mascot, mine is The Kraken! She inspects all of my work to make sure it is quality.

About

Hello there! I'm Nancy, creator and curator of WenchWovens. I started weaving in college, just for fun and new way to play with thread and fabric. After graduating and discovering I wasn't cut out for my dream job, I came back to my alma mater for a job. I re-discovered weaving and found a buried passion. It makes my soul sing, and I'd like to think I'm rather good at it!

Everything you see is planned, calculated, set-up, woven, washed, finished, and sometimes sewn, by me in my attic studio. Sometimes the cats help, usually in a supervisor fashion, and I always enjoy bouncing ideas of my husband and friends.

My yarn and threads come from a variety of places, but always with good quality and style in mind. As with any fiber artist, I have both a yarn and fabric stash. It's extensive. This means I can create something custom for you, and that my ideas are always flowing! Sometimes too fast.

Weaving is a very time-intensive process; it's a labor of love. It takes about 2-4 hours to plan and wind a warp (the basis for anything woven), 8 hours to set up my loom, 8-24 hours to weave, then 2-8 hours to finish (either sewing or twisting fringes). My prices reflect some of the hours I put into each project, and any specialty materials I may have had to purchase. I am also working a regular job, so days off and an hour extra are weaving times!

Lastly, if you don't see your dream textile, or you had a great idea you'd love me to construct, please feel free to let me know! I love commissions and always pay the utmost in attention when completing one. Some commissions I've done in the past include wall-hangings, chair seat cushions, blankets, bags, and place-mats. I do warn you about time; please allow me a month or two to complete a commission. I love to make gifts, but not a week before the recipient's birthday!
