About

Shop Talk - The Eagle's Nest

Wendy's Handmade got started because Wendy made more things than she had room or use for and needed to find homes for them.

Crafting can occur anywhere in the Eagle's Nest at any time, depending on the current whimsy quotient divided by 24 hours minus hours of sleep, times the square root of "when's dinner" plus the number of baskets of dirty laundry.

  • Wendy Crying Glitter Eagle

    Owner, Designer, Maker, Instigator

Wendy has been sewing things to other things, and gluing things to other things since her mother let her use a sewing machine and a hot glue gun. The only thing that gets in her way are the small sizes of the standard USPS Priority Mail boxes.

  • Betsy and Suzi

    Customer Service

Betsy and Suzy are taking a nap between answering convos and shipping orders. They are both over 18 (Betsy is actually 52 - doesn't she look great?!) because Wendy's Handmade does NOT USE CHILD LABOR.

  • Panzi Glitter Kitty

    Director Of Marketing

Panzi has exquisite taste in furniture as you can see from her choice of comfy chair. She is instrumental in selecting fabrics for us to work on. She also enjoys sharing food and listening to zydeco music.

My name is Wendy and I'm a modern Renaissance woman, according to my friends. I enjoy a lot of different crafts, but I've been spending most of my free time at my sewing machine these days, making quilts, textile art, housewares, and costumes. I also spend too much time in front of my computer, but I love creating art with Illustrator and Photoshop. If I can share that with others, that's even better.

Custom orders:

I design a lot of my quilts using EQ6 quilt-design software. One of the advantages of this software is that I can provide you with a really good mock-up of what your custom-designed quilt will look like, so you know what you are getting before I cut one piece of fabric.

When I am doing custom work for someone, I like to get a really good idea of who they are and what they want before I start designing. I want people to be happy with their quilts or other custom art.

At the moment, I sew with a pretty vanilla Singer machine. I machine-piece all my pieced quilts. Right now, I don't do much in the way of applique, but when I do, that's hand-sewn. Since I don't have a long-arm machine, or a qulting machine, if I am making a quilt that's larger than single-bed sized, I will prefer to send the piece out for quilting by a professional quilter. I have been hiring Janice Jameson to do my quilting on large pieces - she charges a reasonable fee for her work, and if you are interested in having me make you a large quilt, we can talk about the specifics and the costs during the design phase.
