Our story: Doing what you love to do
"Western Spiral Art" is Sci-fi and Fantasy inspired handmade business, making magic wands and accessories. I also run craft workshops to encourage makers up and down the country. I do this alongside my job as a junior doctor.
Art is something that has always come naturally to me. But I was banned from doing it at school for the simple reason that I would probably do nothing else! One day I decided I was going to do medicine. So I buckled down, got my science A-levels, with a bit of English Literature thrown in for good measure. But I was always doing art projects on the side. After starting my medical career I suddenly realised what I actually was. A maker.
It’s easy to forget that we CAN make things, that we can be creative, that as adults we’re ALLOWED to get messy with glue and glitter and paint brushes. I decided to pursue my dream of having a craft business when I turned 30, launching it at my birthday party that lasted 13 hours - thus "Western Spiral Art" was born.
"Western Spiral Art" is a name inspired by Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy) because I love to paint and draw swirls and spirals. I use Sci-Fi and Fantasy as my inspiration, especially the worlds of Harry Potter and Doctor Who to create adventure playgrounds for the imagination to run around in.
What started off as making magic wands and props for friends and family has become a mission to inspire creativity and imagination into the next generation of Makers. Now my friends help me run magic wand decorating workshops at comic cons, Harry Potter conventions and maker events up and down the country. This Etsy Shop is another way for us to get our DIY products and craft ideas to another audience who might not be able to make it to our events, so that you can decorate, make and craft in the comfort of your own home.
Thank you for sharing the journey!

Frequently asked questions
Why do items appear different to the pictures in the product listing?
Many of the items I make are unique, handmade and one-of-a-kind. This individuality happens at every stage of the creative process, from the way the item is crafted, to the painting and decorating process. This distinctiveness is something I value in our items. However, it makes product listing, especially on wholesale lots or multiple items, very challenging. I will explicitly say in the product listing when an item may differ from the picture. I will do my best to match colours and custom items with customer requirements. Please email me if you have any questions or specific requirements.
Feedback and photos of your craft projects
Not only do I want to share my items with you to inspire you... I want you to inspire other people with your creativity!! Please do send your photos of how you've decorated and customised your craft projects and what adventures they've taken you on - the more imaginative the better! That way other people might be inspired to make crafts of their own.
Please let me know if you're happy for me to use your photos on future product listings or my social media. I'd love to showcase your work for my instagram and facebook followers.
I appreciate your feedback! Please do let me know what you like and how I can make things better. Future product suggestions are also welcome!
Could there be delivery delays due to the pandemic?
Unfortunately there have occasionally been delays and cancellations with international deliveries. It could take several weeks longer to receive your items if you live outside of the UK. I will try to send your item tracked where possible and keep in touch with you along the way.
