Falling In Love with Crochet
Believe it or not, I did not always love to crochet. Starting in 2006, I became intriqued with the craft simply because my mother in-law participated in it. Whenver I would visit, she would take out her crochet basket and begin working on a dishcloth or a blanket for her numerous grandchildren. In order to relate more with her, I began to learn simple stitches. My first project was a scarf. Boy did that scarf and many others after it look funny! I just could not get my tension down. One side would be so tight and the other would be so loose. It was so frustrating. So, I gave it up for awhile.
Shortly after, my mother in-law passed away from lung cancer. I did not know her long, but I feel we got close when we crocheted together. I decided to give crochet another try and it was amazing how well I picked it up after practicing for several months. It was truly as if she was crocheting through my hands.
I started by making piles of dishclothes and handed them out to friends, neighbors and family. This is what she used to do. I also made afghans for many friends and family members. After all this "practice," I became quite good at the art of crocheting.
My husband and my neighbor noticed this and encouraged me to sell some of my items at a local Farmer's Market, so I did and I love it! They help foster my passion for crafts. My husband came up with the name because our town is nestled between to hills (the east and the west) and we live on the west hill.
If I had one wish, I would want to continue crocheting with my mother in-law (Jackie) and create beautiful things for her. I owe her for my love of crochet and the wonderful things I now create.
