About

Making Dolls Come Alive

I started making dolls for the artistic value and the fun of it. I would give dolls as presents and before I knew it, friends and family became interested and just by word of mouth they started to sell. I guess I should say that this was way before blogs, personal websites, etc.

I took a break from dolls and started making soap, lotions, bath items and potpourri using wonderful essential oils and botanicals. Again I sold these items by word of mouth and it turned out to be modestly successful. But, dolls were my first love so I started to make them again using patterns by doll designers I had discovered on the internet. The best part of making a doll is after they are stuffed and dressed you add their face and hair. As soon as you draw the eyes on they become real and their personality shines through. I love this.

In 2008 I discovered Etsy and joined. I thought with so much cheap merchandise from China flooding our stores this was going to be a wonderful venue to sell handmade items. Merchandise made in American by Americans who took pride in their work. A place where you could buy and sell, unique, well made, one of a kind items, and know that there weren't thousands of the same out there.

The name for my shop came to me after my grand sons started to call me grams. They were younger then and now call me grandmother but I loved being called grams so my shop name became, Grams Grungy Prims.

I hope to add other items to my shop such as wonderful lavender sachets in hand decorated bags and neck pillows. But, for now my dollies are my passion.

I have been making dolls for more years that I care to say. I started out making dolls and clothes with my own very simple patterns. I have gained a lot of experience over the years and make fashion dolls and my favorite, primitives.
