Arrived safely and quickly. Absolutely gorgeous and so well made. Thoroughly recommend!! (They will be part of my fairy outfit I’m going to wear to my delayed 60th birthday bash that’s going to be delayed for 12 months due to our COVID restrictions last December.)

The Perpetual Invasion of Glitter- My Journey of Hand Crafting Fairy Wings, Elfish Ears and Moments of Whimsy
My Oma always used to say I was off with the fairies.
She was right.
It began with a failed set of wings crafted with wire, organza and a hot glue gun.
Or maybe it began with a love story of fire dancing and storytelling with a dose of Mad Science.
It grew in a blacksmithing forge, and had minor hiccups along the way with the very early arrival of a changeling child (she was born without wings, this needed to be addressed), followed by a bundle of Joy two years later.
Regardless, over a decade or so of being in love with a Mad Scientist something whimsical and impish has happened which I've felt compelled to share. Having made wings for friends, relatives and my daughters, I've longed to share them with a broader audience, spread the wonder and playfulness. My wings are so strikingly -different- from anything else I've seen.
Stealing into my cluttered art room of a dozen concurrent projects (a set of wings or two, a splash of glitter from some dangling ear wings, patching knees on pants, half a crochet flower, some twisted willow and a flurry of sketches) I take a moment to bask in the sunshine. It always has to be daylight hours, wings demand sunshine.
I sit down. There's an energy that happens, a certain magic, a mental space I slip into where it's not just me working. It's as if some little being 'borrows' my hands to make something just so, create the magic, the balance, the play of light and colour. And of course the ever present glitter.
I'm also constantly thwarted by the presence of The Tea Fairies. They're tricksy little creatures. I go to have another sip of chai only to find it's all gone when I could have sworn I'd only drunk half of it. They're fast, I've not yet caught them zooming in to steal a sip. I suppose it's worth it for the little treasures and inspirational sparkle they leave.
Owner, Maker, Designer, Fae Touched Influence
I’m an optimistic artist, mother and children’s educator. I create gorgeous faerie wings. I dabble in calligraphy. I sew and do embroidery on occasion. I wrangle some seriously awesome experiences for children. I have something of a green thumb.
Resident Mad Scientist, Assistant
Mark is the Resident Mad Scientist of Whimsical Pixies. He's responsible for the Structural Engineering side of wings, bending wire harnesses & the heavy work cutting plastics for larger wings. Find his shop here: www.MadScienceLab.etsy.com
Grace is the Official Oma of Whimsical Pixies (and Pixie's mum). She gets a kick out of knitting quirky hats for everyone's children, but especially for her two grand-daughters. She knits, crochets, sews, smocks and generally loves making things.
Accepted payment methods
Returns & exchanges
If you don't already have a paypal account I have found them to be easy to use and secure, with many protections for buyers.
Etsy has a helpful guide to the checkout process here: http://www.etsy.com/help_guide_checkout.php
If you need more flexible arrangements for payment, please contact me through my shop and we can negotiate payment in instalments for larger purchases. Full payment will be required before I can ship your purchase to you.
Adult sized custom wings will require a non-refundable deposit of 20% of my final quote before I can start building for you.
If you need your order in a hurry please talk to me. I do charge a rush-order fee for prioritising orders as this impacts upon my time with my daughters. I check my email multiple times a day so expect quick responses.
If I need to contact you about your order to clarify details and I don't hear from you within 7 days of your purchase I reserve the right to cancel your order and refund payments, this may take a few days to clear depending on payment method. Please confirm that your email address with Etsy is accurate, and it's worth having Etsy forward messages directly to your email account as I know it's easy to forget to check Etsy for messages.
Orders ship to the buyer's address with Etsy. Please check this before you order and contact me urgently if this address changes before your order is marked as 'shipped' by me. An incorrect address with Etsy is the buyer's responsibility.
All costs of shipping, handling, customs, taxes and duties are the responsibility of the buyer. I cannot estimate nor collect these in advance for you. Please try to be aware of them before you purchase to save us both some heartache.
Ear wings and gumnut hats are shipped via regular air mail using Australia Post. Wings are shipped via Registered Post or Sendle (within Australia). Tracking is unfortunately not included with international service. Tracking or insurance can be added for all products if you wish it though this can be significantly more expensive. These are available through shipping upgrades available at the checkout.
Express post can be made available if needed, though note that this reduces the estimated postage time only by a few days internationally and is significantly more expensive (child sized wings = $65 to the USA for postage within 3-7 working days as at March 2013).
I can combine postage on multiple purchases. Please talk to me before ordering so I can make an accurate quote for you. Overcharges on shipping will be refunded.
Where I can I use recycled packaging materials for transporting my wings. This cuts down on the cost for you and reduces landfill, so double win! Wings and ear wings are wrapped in an additional layer of tissue paper to protect against scratches in transit. All products include a care card for looking after your purchase to help them stay beautiful.
Postage from Australia to the USA is generally 3-10 business days.
To the UK is usually about 2 weeks but can be up to 3 weeks.
Shipping times to other countries can be estimated for you upon request.
Please be aware that public holidays, customs delays and extreme weather events can slow the arrival of your purchase. If it hasn't arrived within 3 weeks please contact me and I'll see if I can chase it up. The post office won't start processing lost packages until 6 weeks have passed.
These estimates are purely the shipping time.
Custom and made-to-order pieces do take time to be created for you, these are specified within each listing's shipping details. Please factor this in in combination with shipping times when ordering for a particular special event.
Additional policies and FAQs
Additional Policies and FAQ:
Yes! I do make custom orders!
Medium and adult sized wings are all by commission and will require a non-refundable deposit of 20% of the final cost before I can start assembling materials.
If you have metal allergies I can make your ear wings using silver plated wire for a small additional fee. Please talk to me about this before purchase.
I do have a drafting fee for if you wish a design beyond my current portfolio, this is charged in addition to the price of your ear wings or wearable costume wings. I reserve all rights to the designs I sketch out for you and may make them available to future customers. Every set of wings becomes unique through the whims of the creative process and tailoring to each individual's desires. If you wish an exclusive wing design this has additional charges.
