Whimsy & Spice was launched at the first ever Brooklyn Flea in Ft Greene in April, 2008. Our story is one of those recession stories where an unexpected lay off from a new job resulted in an opportunity to start a business. We had 2 short months to develop our product line, design our packaging and branding, and photograph our products. We handled everything ourselves, but quickly realized that between the two of us, our 14 years of experience in our respective fields as a Pastry Chef and a designer made us ideal partners in business. We launched with 3 shortbreads, 2 marshmallows, 2 biscotti, a brownie, and a sampler gift box. Three weeks later we opened up our Etsy shop and began shipping our products beyond the NYC area.

Now in business for more than 7 years, we have nearly 30 products in rotation and have shipped to every state in the US. We've been featured on national television on the Martha Stewart Show, The Rachel Ray Show, and the Cooking Channel, and covered by the The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, Real Simple, Bon Appetit, Saveur, and Time Out New York. You can find our products in Dean & Deluca, Foragers Market, and the Ace Hotel, among other retailers in NYC.

We've seen the local Brooklyn food scene as well as other small independent food producers on Etsy grow exponentially since we were one of the first few food businesses on the scene. While our business has grown over the past 7 years, some things haven't changed - we still roll, bake, and package all of our products by hand, and you'll often see us behind the table at weekend markets. Our relationship to our customers–whether in person or online–is a personal one. From day one, packaging and design have always been an integral role in our business and we take as much care in the presentation of our products as we do in creating interesting flavor combinations in our sweets. Whimsy & Spice is still very much a family owned business in the spirit of when we founded the company in 2008.
