I love to take photos, and I have a massive collection accumulated over the years. Nothing makes my day more than to come home, get the mail, and find a card or letter that someone has hand-written to me. The writer took time to think about me, to think of a message, and to put that message on paper, put a stamp on the envelope, and mail it to me. Good old snail mail. That act of love and kindness is so uplifting. A personal note card from a friend reminds me that I matter.

I'd like to say that writing cards to loved ones and friends makes my day. When I sit down to write, I don't experience joy at the start, I have anxiety over what to write: what if I make a mistake -- cross out or start over? What if I run out of space? What if I run out of things to say? What’s the right thing to say? You know what – these questions are minuscule and easily surmountable when compared to the goodness that you send by putting your message in an envelope and mailing it.

My answer to the procrastination and anxiety -- just do it. Pour a cup of coffee, glass of iced tea or a glass of wine, sit down at the dining room table, pull out your cards, and start writing! Turn the TV off -- it is too much of a distraction. Turn your cell phone over, and turn on some good music. Start writing. You will never regret it, and you will be very happy for the kindness and good feelings you have created for others.
