About

I love to draw and play in the mud.

My name is Gina Chalfant and I live and create in Pittsburgh, Pa, USA. Drawing has always been my way of reflecting back on the beauty that I see in the world. I studied painting, drawing and fresco in Lucca, Italy. In 1995 I became interested in historic pottery and began making a line of pottery under the name of White Swan Illuminations. They explore common themes and techniques developed by migrating potters across the Middle East, Europe and the British Isles and incorporate my love of animals and the English countryside where I spent a summer.

My work is currently taking shape in the form of hand-thrown functional pottery, decorated with ceramic transfers made from my original drawings of farm, city, woodland animals and sea creatures. My intent was to capture the feel of a vintage english curiosity cabinet, enhancing your home while in use or on display. I also offer a line of hand-formed porcelain jewelry and pendants. Some of these feature my animal drawings while others are made from antique or hand carved original molds.

In addition to my Etsy shop, I sell my work at fine art and craft festivals throughout the northeastern United States. You can also find my limited addition line of pottery celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Rare Breeds Animal Program at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. I was featured in the Country Living Magazine's gift giving guide and can be found at the Country Living Fair in Columbus, Ohio in September.

Thanks for visiting my shop.
