ABOUT ME: Founder- Stephanie Mitchell
Hi, I’m Stephanie, Manchester raised- Cheshire based mum of two now teenage boys. Having always knew I wanted to work in fashion, it took me a little while to truly find my path. As a young mum I took a chance on an idea and started my personal and business journey. Wilderness Bride was established in 2012.

Wilderness Bride is a bridal brand and business which is all about you discovering exactly what you would want your dress to be on that special day. My journey, love and passion for designing started when I was a little girl. Drawing really is in my DNA. For me, it is all about style. The design process is a spiritual and thoughtful journey and getting lost in the wilderness or my inspirational daydreams when designing helps me find that special place which allows me to create a dress with you in mind. I want you to be the person you want to be on your special day. I draw great inspiration and strength from my family, and I want to share that with you. Stephanie.

WHY I STARTED WILDERNESS BRIDE? A question I will be forever grateful for.
Having fallen into a job within the bridal industry one day someone asked me “what would you wear for your wedding?” a question that I will be forever grateful for. Although I greatly admired the high-end designer dresses I was surrounded by (they were £10,000) it wasn’t necessarily what I would wear myself. It got me thinking and I started to sketch my ideas, suddenly I had 400 sketches on paper which I had pinned to my dining room walls- my friend thought I had re-decorated and thought it was a new wallpaper!
I realized that I had a lot of ideas and that I had spotted a gap in the market for: High quality yet simple wedding dresses with a more affordable price point.

HOW WE HAVE GROWN? The little lace jacket
I was a young single mum with no funding to start a business so I dedicated myself to the ‘elves and the shoemaker strategy’- whatever you sell, keep half for yourself and half for the business. This is how I grew my collection with the initial start-up fund of £30 from my own pocket.
I made what I could, used what I had and this happened to be a little lace jacket that could be worn over the top of strapless dresses which were popular at the time. I displayed this little lace bridal jacket in the boutique where I worked and when I sold one, I invested the money back into the business and made more designs. The first jacket I ever made I named “Eden” Like the garden of Eden the start of all things natural and beautiful. I am not religious but it was symbolic for me. The Eden jacket is still available to this day.
Eventually I managed to create my first dress collections and started to build a team of wonderful creatives and makers who help to keep the Wilderness Bride brand fresh, new and brimming with ideas and life.

WHAT THE COLLECTIONS ARE ABOUT? Inspirations and elements.
Nature plays a vital role in the designing of my collections alongside vintage fashions of the 1930s and 1940s which I feel are the most romantic, the elements, seasons, heritage, keepsakes, comfort, fabrics, popular culture, art, classic literature, folklore are all sources of inspiration.
I tend to choose an element and a season when starting a new collection this is always the foundation of any new collection and a base for me to begin my design journey and process.
2018 SIREN-WATER/SPRING
2019 SEVEN SISTERS-AIR/WINTER
2020 WILD STRAWBERRY-EARTH/SUMMER
I like to feel ‘at one with nature’ and at the same time comfortable in my style, in myself. It is my desire to help you discover those feelings for your special day.

HOW I CAME UP WITH THE NAME? It stemmed from the sisterhood.
My friend and I were walking through the grounds of a grand country estate-Tabley House in the heart of Cheshire. This is where we would meet and discuss my ideas for the business. My friend was incredibly encouraging having started a business of her own years before. As we wondered through the grounds my friend said “what a beautiful wilderness” I immediately said “Wilderness Bride” and all around us were deer with there beautiful antlers which became the logo.

WHATS NEXT- Intentions and values
We have some incredibly exciting plans for Wilderness Bride. In a world of fast fashion, we remained slow. In a world of fake beauty, we remained natural. That’s how we intend to stay and grow.
