Don't Forget To Smile...and Water Your Houseplants.

"Do you smell it? That smell. A kind of smelly smell. The smelly smell that smells...smelly" -Mr. Krabs

2020 Update:

Due to one of our number being accepted into a school in the District of Columbia, we have spent most of our 2020 making the move for both us and our candles to Washington, DC. Our "Quarantine & Chill Time" has been devoted to acclimating to our new production workspace in the beautiful, historical, and chill Cleveland Park neighborhood near Georgetown. We've spend many of these months updating our product line...I didn't think it was possible to have even more scents but we've fallen in love with a FEW more. While our look is changing a bit, our production values haven't...our candles are still individualistic and personal to us. We hope you'll love our new and updated products as much as we do...
Not only has this been an exciting time for our little business, but Lyric and I have been able to see and participate in the events of this year firsthand. We have to vote, ya'll. We have to vote as if our lives depend on it, because our lives really do.

Why Us?
Our candles are hand-poured the old fashioned way…in small batches with great care…from setting wicks to stirring in fragrance…to pouring jars.
Each candle is created by an actual human being.
Our products smell great, last a long time, and don’t break the bank.
Our candles are scent-integrated (all the wax is scented…not just the top). It will smell good all the way to the bottom of the wick.
We’re focused on quality…not quantity.

Why Soy?
Releases fragrance naturally without added chemicals or stabilizers.
Water soluble and biodegradable.
More economical—soy wax lasts 25-50% longer than paraffin
Minimal negative impact on our environment and our Earth.

Our Scents: Scent is subjective

As fervent fans of Symphonic Metal…to us there is nothing more soothing or satisfying than hand pouring our candles surrounded by soaring and moving music sounds (this is the effect we want our scents to have after all). Scents are often described in the order of their notes…and to us, these notes a Mini Symphony. As the wax is melted the scent is pitched, these notes and layers come together to form melodies of smell.
The Top Note--The First Impression: These scents are what you smell when you first take off the lid that make you sigh in approval or wrinkle your nose in disgust. Top notes preview the scent and form the overall tone.
The Middle Note—The Heart and Soul: After the top note recedes, the middle notes form the body of the scent while the candle is burning. The middle note embodies the melody of the scent and creates the ambivance.
The Bottom Note—The Finale: This is the crescendo of the scent…what lingers with you. This is the overall song you smell even after the candle itself is blown out.

ABOUT OUR SHOP: Wilderness Road Wicks is a constantly evolving collaboration between four generations of strong-willed women in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in Southwest VA. We began in 2008 as Kyhunly Herb Farm after the love of all our lives...my dad...died. A husband, a dad, a grandpa (and later a great-grandad) his life well lived left many wonderful memories and stories behind, a respect for the Earth and it's inhabitants...and especially a love for laughing. To us, nothing evokes past memories and hope for future memories like the sense of smell...and so we began Wilderness Road Wicks.

We began with 100% natural soy wax candles. The backstory is that at the time, I knew nothing about the benefits of soy...I just liked to burn candles. I wanted my home to smell like the way I was feeling at that moment...for people to come in and feel like a member of my tribe at that moment. Needless to say, it was an expensive habit. Then my son was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis and I needed to stay home to care for him. Paraffin candles were a no-no for breathing problems...so we became soy nerds and have never looked back.

Now for our Guiding "Lights":

We want to live creatively, beautifully and simply and wish to create products to help others do the same. We feel that candle-making and scent crafting is an art—we are committed to treating it as such. Scent is incredibly personal--by combining art and science, we have the ability to create products that mean something different to each personal existence—and what it reveals. Which is really cool.

My Dad would say "Enough with the words!!" So we wish you HAPPY MELTING!!

Being asked to write a 250 letter bio sent Kylie into an existential crisis. Who is she? Why is she here? Should she write about being a mom, college, love of humanity, anxiety issues? What's even happening here?? Does this count?
