Frequently asked questions
Why Coconut Wax Candles?
Coconut wax is currently the most sustainable & accessible natural wax available in the USA. Coconut wax is a creamy, softer wax that allows for a cleaner, safer burn than many wax alternatives. The soft wax of coconuts allows candles to have a stronger scent throw as well.
A core value of Wild Indigo & Juniper is sustainability. Coconuts are able to be more sustainably farmed, as well as pesticide-free.
While soy wax is the most common natural wax for candles because it is cheap & widely available, there are some negative implications with soy wax. There are negative environmental impacts of soybean overcultivation & pesticides are commonly used in soybean farming, plus soy is a common allergy & burning soy candles may cause mild allerg
Are Your Candles All Natural?
Yes! Our candle wax is plant based [Coconut & Apricot Waxes], food grade quality [We do not recommend eating our candles though!]
We use premium fragrance oils, infused with essential oils & compliant with international safety standards. Our wicks are coreless, braided cotton. Our candle jars are recyclable, amber glass with an aluminum twist lid.
How Long Does Your Candle Last?
Our 8oz | 226g coconut blend candles burn for a minimum of 40 hours.
How Are Handcrafted Candles Different?
Wild Indigo & Juniper’s candles are handcrafted solely by the owner, poured in small batches in Oak Park, IL.
Handcrafted candles are poured in small batches by experienced chandlers, which will result in better quality control & more environmentally sustainable due to less energy consumption during production. Artisan candles are more likely to utilize high quality, ethically sourced ingredients. While there may be slight variations in the appearance of artisan candles, these are natural occurrences & it will not impact the quality of the burn.
Plus, purchasing candles from an artisan is a great way to shop local & support small businesses!
How Do I Care for My Candle?
Trim your wick to 0.25in | 0.63cm before each burn. This will help your candle last longer & burn without black smoke / soot.
Do not burn a candle for longer than 4 hours. If a wick burns for over 4 hours, carbon may collect on the wick & it may cause soot / black smoke. It may cause the jar to overheat & become dangerous to handle.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Only burn candles on a flat, even & heat resistant surface. Keep out of reach from children & pets.
Do not light a candle when only 0.5in | 1.3cm of wax remains in the jar. A candle without enough wax to burn can overheat & become dangerous.
