About

Metal Is Our Life

Master Goldsmith, William Howard, his daughter, Master Goldsmith Missy Howard and Master Goldsmith, Glen Prescott make for a trio of knowledge spanning 40 years.

If you walk into our shop on any given day you will be welcomed by our shop cat Arrow, an abundance of local art and pottery and us...The Goldsmiths of William Howard Jewelry.

We do things from scratch, from the beginning. From inception to completion on any given piece we are versed in the old stylings of metal art which have been passed down for thousands of years. We continue to strive to educate willing students, run an ethical business and support local and handmade.

It isn't unusual to see someone come in with an antique pocket watch that hasn't run for years. Then watch as Glen opens it up to tell them that it can be fixed, that their heirloom can be saved. As he twists the watch in his hands to inspect the mechanisms inside, you are able to observe.

It also isn't unusual to see someone walk in with an antique sword wondering how old it is or where it's from while Bill lovingly finds the Maker's mark to give them the information they desire and a bit more knowledge to walk out with to share with everyone that sees that sword on their wall. You are invited to observe.

Finally, it isn't unusual to see Missy hand someone a little box with a custom made ring and watch tears fall as she has just created an idea and brought it to life. It was just a picture, a few words, thoughts and now it's something. A piece of someone and we welcome you to observe.

This is us...We aren't in a mall, we are trying to move with the times and technology and one thing is for sure, you will be pleasantly surprised by what we can bring to your life. For you and all generations to come.

We are handmade.

Welcome to our shop! All of the jewelry is made by hand by an experienced team of goldsmiths in downtown Stoughton, WI. We offer a full service custom jewelry and repair shop locally as well as online. With our skill sets, we can custom make just about anything you can dream of. With a combined 80+ years of experience between Master Goldsmith William Howard, his daughter, also a Master Goldsmith Missy Howard and trusted friend and Master Silversmith Glenn Prescott, there is no job too big or too small. We also operate a small school where we share our knowledge to others interested in the trade at The Howard Academy for the Metal Arts. There is a sampling of some of our works as well as our students at: www.howard-academy.com.
We welcome any inquiries regarding custom work as well as repair and sizing jobs. Don’t be afraid to ask about having one of our silver rings made in gold or vice versa. The possibilities here truly are endless! Thank you for looking!

Additional policies and FAQs
For many years, we have survived almost solely on word of mouth advertising which we feel is a testament to our commitment to our customers as well as our passion and dedication to our work. We take great pride in what we do and it is reflected in our work.
Please feel free to ask us any questions about what you see here or what you might see in your mind and don’t quite know how to have it materialized. For custom orders, once we get a notion of what it is you are looking for, we will do some hand drawings and email them to you and make any changes back and forth as it might take until we have come up with the perfect design for you. At that point a price is assigned, unless a budget has already been established – in which case we will work within those set parameters. We will then post a custom listing for you in our shop for you to finalize the transaction. If you would like we will send you a picture of the piece once it is finished before we put it in the mail.
