Welcome! Winter Cottage is a small farm dwelling where hooked rug patterns & simple goods are made by hand one piece at a time. Inspired by vintage designs I offer rug hooking patterns and small needfuls like pincushions and doll quilts. Each piece is designed and created by me in my hillside cottage. I hope you enjoy the simple industry of Winter Cottage.
I'm a rug hooking artist from southeastern PA who loves creating new things that reflect the endearing look of handwork done by women from decades past. Working with my hands is very satisfying and I love to help others be able to experience the same sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. For this reason, I am happy to provide patterns so that if you don't like to draw, you can still give rug hooking a try. My patterns come in two forms: paper that you will need to transfer onto a foundation cloth, and on linen with the pattern drawn, edges stitched, and ready to hook.
All the doll quilts, pin cushions and other needfuls are finished products. Please note, that there may be intentional aged spots, a frayed edge or two, even a pin hole. But this is all in keeping with the intent to give the piece an aged appearance. All is done in good taste and within the bounds of what you would expect for an antique treasure.
Inspiration for my work is drawn from the old textiles and legacy of the farm women who helped shape my home state of PA. From the handwork of Quakers to Pennsylvania Dutch and all in between, I try to have my work honor their legacy.
Everything in my shop is made by me in my small cottage that sets on a hillside surrounded by rural farms in Berks County, PA.
If you have any questions please contact me. Due to the nature of my business, I cannot accept pattern returns but I am committed to making your shopping experience at Winter Cottage one you can trust. If ever I happen to send you the wrong pattern I will promptly send you the right one at no cost to you. Even though the preset Etsy Shop Policies section states that I do not accept returns or exchanges, please note that I am very happy to work with you if you are not satisfied with anything that you receive from my shop. My desire is that you shop at Winter Cottage with confidence so please convo me with any questions regarding a listing.

About WinterCottageStudio
Inspired by vintage, I create hooked rug patterns and handwork needfuls.
My mom taught me how to sew when I was a young girl. Ever since I've been creating things with my hands for my home. Often the motivation was wanting an antique but not being able to afford it so I'd sew my own version. I studied what made an old piece so endearing: a frayed edge, a rip from a pin, an age spot or two. So then I began learning how to incorporate frayed and age spots to my projects. When I learned to rug hook, it wasn't long before I found myself overdying my own wool and drawing my own patterns. Show me a textile that is old or made by a school girl or tattered, frayed, or floppy with age and I'll love it... and want to make one just like it!

I've been making things with my hands since I was a little girl. I've raised four boys in my home state of PA and now my husband and I enjoy the grandkids. I love to quilt, hook rugs, hike, pick flowers & antiquing...add coffee and it's even better!
