Art inspired by nature
My earliest memories are of drawing. I remember endlessly scribbling away at pictures of characters from old Warner Brothers cartoons. Ever since those days I've loved creating art and strive to re-capture the sense fun, joy and wonder at the world that I felt when I was a kid.
I create art to reflect my biggest sources of inspiration: nature and wildlife though the prism of things that excite me: 50's & 60's animation design, typography, the bold shapes of picture books and the darkness & light of folk stories.
I live in a cottage in small sleepy country village in England, complete with a cricket green, red postboxes and blue/gray skies (depending on the day). I'm lucky enough to share a home with my lovely girlfriend, Sarah, who makes jewellery for a living, and the equally lovely, Totoro - our puppy - whose likes include dandelion clocks and chasing butterflies.
My shop, Winter Smoke, is named after one of my favourite poems by Tennessee Williams', 'Winter Smoke is Blue and Bitter'.
All my original art is painted on lightfast Italian hand made cotton rag paper, using gouache paint with the highest permanence ratings. This means your piece should last over 100 years and, if displayed under optimal conditions, over 200 years.
For prints - all my prints are done using Epson Ultrachrome K3 ink on 330gsm Epson hot press natural matte paper. Basically I've gone to great lengths by testing a lot of very expensive papers & inks to ensure that not only does each print look its best but also should have an excellent display life of over 100 years.
Like all people selling art I've spent a lot of time getting the displayed images to as closely match the colour of each painting as possible, however please note that due to the fact that every monitor displays colours differently there may be small variances between the actual prints/painting and the way you see it on your screen.
