wireknits' Shop Announcement

My artwork is all created by hand using ordinary knitting needles and various pliers. I have developed my own technique of knitting with wire, which I call “knitting off the needle.” With my technique I use only one needle at a time for the purposes of pulling the stitch and controlling the stitch size. The stitches of a work in progress are not held on a needle or frame, since I do not have to worry about any piece getting a run.

I have really come to enjoy working with wire as my medium of choice. Being pliable yet retaining form, knitted wire as a medium has allowed me the freedom to create shapes and designs that would be impossible with other materials. I enjoy using a technique that is usually associated with soft and draping constructions and, instead, creating more ridged architectural forms.
