About

Celebrating the beauty of nature with handcrafted prints.

What the Wolf Jaw Press studio is:
Wolf Jaw Press is an independent screen printing studio located in Upstate New York just north of Albany. Founded by Alicia Burnett in 2015, Wolf Jaw Press focuses on celebrating the beauty of nature with small limited edition runs of handcrafted prints. From start to finish, every part of the printing process is done by hand. Working by hand is messy and labor intensive, but it is a rewarding and humbling process that yields breathtaking results.

How Wolf Jaw Press was founded:
Hi, I'm Alicia Burnett and I'm the founder of Wolf Jaw Press. I fell in love with printmaking while I was an undergraduate illustration student at the Rhode Island School of Design. I took a silkscreen printing class during my junior year and I was instantly hooked. As a student that was interested in illustration, printmaking, graphic design, and textiles, screen printing seemed like the perfect marriage of all my artistic interests. After I graduated from RISD, I moved to Brooklyn to work on my MFA in graphic design at Pratt Institute. While thoroughly enjoying the new projects I was working on for my thesis at Pratt, I found myself yearning for the days I spent covered in ink with my sleeves rolled up and sweat on my brow. I knew I had to get back in the print studio.

Knowing that I couldn't use either RISD's or Pratt's facilities after I graduated with my MFA in 2015, I looked for a community studio that offered renting print time and equipment. That option proved be expensive and inconvenient, and I quickly realized I would have to build my own studio. Putting in months of research, a decent amount of money, and quite a bit of time, slowly but surely a screen printing studio came together. I owe an incredible amount of credit to my Father, Phil, for helping me build the equipment necessary for Wolf Jaw Press to be a reality. I would not have a printing table, exposure unit, washout station, or drying rack if it wasn't for his ingenuity and resourcefulness.
