Plumbing the Depths

Wonder Room started as my own private universe; a series of images unedited, exuberant, shimmering and ordinary.

Sketching was something that I did a fair amount of in architecture school as a way to express an idea, but beyond this drawing was not my medium of choice. Quite out of thin air, my creative process switched from being the stuff of whimsical ideas to meeting the oft-hard demands of a neuromuscular disease which has me now utilizing a wheelchair.

My re-entry into the drawing world occurred through the process of omission, as my finger muscles are the least affected by my condition. Simply, my desire has been to “touch” the natural world and regain connection to the sights, sounds, and visceral experiences of the outside physical world that always thrilled and delighted me. I initially began surrounding myself with images, my Wonder Room, as touchstones to qualities I wished to embody. Drawing became my way of tracing the face of nature and in the process; it unwittingly became the bridge that closed the gaps felt in my newly formed life. For me these close-in jewels, these paeans to nature, express the potency and vibrancy of life within and without- and I am now delighted to share these drawings with you and yours. It is my intention that these drawings serve to connect us with nature and the deepest place where Beauty resides. May we "Live in Wonder".
