Wooden Art by Amber Dusick (aka woodmouse)
Hi there! Thanks for checking out my work. All the wooden figures in my shop are designed, cut, woodburned and sanded by me.
The wooden figures are sealed with beeswax and organic jojoba oil and all edges are sanded buttery smooth. The water based paints I use have been independently third-party tested and non-toxic. They are also AP certified non-toxic and bear the ACMI non-toxic seal. I use sustainably harvested domestic woods and beeswax from a local beekeeper.
By woodburning the details and adding washes of non-toxic waterbased paint over it, I developed a completely unique style that was all my own. In 2006, I came up with the idea of woodburning details on figures and toys because I wanted them to look similar to the black ink and watercolor paintings I had created many years ago. While I had never seen woodburnt details with paint washes on wooden toys or figures back when I started, this "woodmouse" style is now used by others, so I was onto something good!

Eco-friendly run shop...
Being eco-friendly is one of my core values and this extends to the way I run my shop.
Everything that I select for packaging and shipping is chosen for a reason. I strive to find details like tissue paper, labels and tags that are 100% ♻ post-consumer recycled content. Cloth pouches and raffia ribbons are made from natural materials and can be re-used or even composted.
I also have a minor obsession with sourcing my raw art materials locally. I use sustainably grown poplar and FSC Certified domestic pine. I get unrefined beeswax from a local beekeeper and make my own beeswax sealer. My base clay and glazes are from California. Even the hooks on ornaments and the saw tooth hangers on the back of ceramics are made in the USA.
