Because vintage wool sweaters are beautiful when felted!

I first began cutting and sewing handmade felt flowers, pins, and brooches out of my husband's beautiful vintage sweaters that I found packed away in the attic. These are sweaters that transport me back to cozy days early in our relationship. I clearly remember him wearing them -- and I wore them too! Sadly, they were not going to be worn again, so (with his permission), I threw them in a hot wash and ended up with beautiful felted wool. My husband loves Autumn colors -- browns, greens, and burnt oranges, so I began my sewing with those warm colors. Although my first attempts at making wool flowers were lopsided at best, I kept at it and so enjoyed seeing a new life born for that beautiful wool. I kept going... and going and going. Soon I had a box overflowing with wool flowers. Adding a small metal clasp and dropping them into a handmade paper box with some tissue and I had pretty gifts for friends, family and colleagues.

Now I seek out good vintage wool sweaters wherever I can -- and it is sometimes not easy. So many sweaters are made with wool blend or acrylic, and those fabrics do not felt. My early brooches were all earth toned and very bohemian --- I still love that style, but have come to realize that a lot of people do love a purple and pink flower! I am beginning to branch out into the more feminine colors as well as into vintage denim.

Each time I sew, my intent is to create something small and beautiful from everyday vintage material.

I opened my Etsy shop in December 2014.
