CUSTOM RESTORATIONS/REPAIRS - Woolenbrae repairs damaged braided rugs. With patience and attention to detail, old braided rugs can often be mended and restored - extending their life for longer use in your home. Many of us fondly recall a family member who saved worn garments, cut them into strips, and created a special rug that now shows signs of wear. Common signs of wear: broken stitching between rows, areas where the entire braid is frayed, and small pieces of wool sprouting up. If you love the rug and its memories, and hope to save/enjoy it for as long as possible, pull your rug out of the closet, and let's help it live again! Let's chat. Your rug is probably not a lost cause! I'll be happy to hear the story of your rug, assess your rug's repair needs, then offer ideas for how I can help. The charge for custom repairs is $30 per hour, with a deposit, and a standard supplies fee. Free shipment on US orders. Free pick-up and delivery within 100 miles of St Johnsbury, VT. For more information, please contact me.

CUSTOM ORDERS: Woolenbrae welcomes custom orders. If you wish to purchase a custom braided rug for yourself or another, please write. I am happy to answer any questions, send more photos, and to create a rug in any size and color - just for you. Custom rugs can even incorporate fabrics that carry special meanings for you or someone else. The charge for a custom made rug is $44 per square foot, payable as a $200 down payment, with final payment - when the rug is completed. FREE SHIPPING in USA. You will receive fabric swatches and sample braids to approve colors. As your rug grows, you will receive regular updates with photos, throughout its creation process. Generally, a 2' x 3' oval rug will take about 4 weeks to produce. Free delivery to orders within 100 miles of St Johnsbury, VT. Free shipping on U.S. orders. To chat or gather more information, please contact me.

Hand braided rugs, baskets and bowls, from many colors of rescued and new wool fibers

RUG-MAKING: I love to work with natural fibers, and enjoy making braided rugs. After years of gifting rugs and filling many empty floor spaces in my own home, I wished to expand my "flock" of warm 'toe-happy' woolen rugs into a larger environment. I make every effort to seek out and use woolens that were formerly garments or blankets, provided these fibers are strong, can be washed clean, and will respond to the demands of being a rug. Many rescued woolens can endure the trampling of happy feet for years to come!

HERITAGE: The wool and sheep-raising industry has a long heritage here in the U.S. I spend some time in each week trying to learn all I can about the wool industry of the 19th & early 20th centuries. This expanded awareness helps me to appreciate the beautiful qualities of wool fiber even more; with a deep appreciation for the many hands and minds that set up rigorous systems from shearing a fleece to washing, combing, fulling, spinning, and weaving into the fabric for my use as a braider. In addition, I'm gaining a greater knowledge of the many breeds of sheep in the world, and the values attributed to their various kinds of fleece.

I am a teacher who values the important life skills that enrich our lives. Braiding rugs is one of those skills, and I am so happy to work with folks in my local communities to share our creative efforts together. We learn so much from one another!

I love braiding wool into lovely carpets. My rugs often express natural themes such as the colors of birds, trees, flowers, and other elements of our outdoor environments. I love to teach others AND, I love to restore old rugs to their former glory.
