Norway to Montana
I grew up in Oslo Norway, where my grandmother taught me how to knit at the age of 6. In school we continued to knit as a practical skill in our home economic class. Money was tight but I still found a way to have yarn to knit with, as I learned to unravel old unwanted traditional Norwegian sweaters, washing, reskeining and re knitting the yarn into my own fresh fair isle sweaters.
Yarn has changed a whole lot since those days in Norway knitting with bland colored itchy yarn. Today an array of beautiful next to skin soft fiber blends, moisture wicking, fluffy, yummy yarns are available...I love to work and experiment with these fibers and apply my own colors.
As a fiber artist I enjoy preserving the alchemy of wool that inspires the dialog between hand and heart.
For the first time this fall I will be out of my kitchen and into my new studio built solely for hand dyeing and spinning my yarns overlooking the Whitefish Mountain range and my horses in the pasture here in Montana
An inspired dream has come true.
