Welcome to NEWLAND RANCH on the rolling prairies of southwest Saskatchewan, Canada. Here you will have the opportunity to purchase wool and fiber from individual animals from our little spinner's flock. We strive to give you fast, friendly service and be your source for wool - from sheep who all have names and are part of our family. Your Etsy purchase is helping this eco-friendly farm be sustainable. This in turn helps agriculture and our planet flourish. Thank you!

I use my Wool Judging Certification to methodically appraise each fleece after shearing. After its evaluation (with detailed notes and photos) each fleece is put into storage until I list it in the store. Besides my own flocks wool, I also select some fleeces from my friends' flocks.
Convo me with questions or to customize an order for you!

So many wonderful things to say about Val, her shop and sheep!! Val was quick to touch base when she came across something she noticed as she was prepping my order, and she provided much appreciated advice right away when I replied back. She then went above and beyond with her customer service and upfront and open attitude. When my order arrived on a Tuesday afternoon, I had to wait until Friday before opening the box (sooo hard to do!). When I did open it, I found not only the fleece I was expecting, but a handwritten note explaining the extra surprise inside along with welcome tips on processing. WOW! I'm definitely going to be a repeat customer. When you're lucky enough to find a great shop with a great owner, you feel good about investing your money there. Wooly Wool of the West is definitely one of those shops.

About

There's something wonderful about working with natural wool!

Shortly after acquiring my first flock of sheep and having them sheared, I realized I didn't want their wool exported out of the country in a homogenized boatload. I needed wool for various fiber adventures, so I began the long and wonderful journey of learning to know and use the wool.

Before long I began selling finished yarn and as my knowledge of wool grew, I began selling raw wool too. Over the years, many breeds have come to live here and several different breeding programs have developed purebreds and crosses with unique wool characteristics.

If you don't see what you are looking for, please ask. I have several friends with flocks and they are happy to share. Discover the big wide world of sheep breeds close to home. Canadian sheep breeders grow some of the most extraordinary wool in the world!

My first flock of sheep arrived 2004. Learning to care for sheep and wool has became a way of life. How unique each fleece & animal within a breed is! Come visit this wooly world!

  • Farmer Bob

    Assistant, Shipper

Always close by and helpful, Farmer Bob does animal chores if I can't be there. He drives parcels to the post office too.

  • Bella & Pal

    Sheep Guardian, Predator Control

Bella (head guardian) and Pal (lamb keeper) are Marama cross. The sisters have lived with sheep from birth. They came to our flock at age 3 months in 2006. There have been no predator attacks since!

  • The Shearing Team

    Shearers

Lorrie Reed and his shearers are booked 3 months in advance of the day. They do an excellent job keeping the well being of sheep and wool in mind. Lots of family and friends also lighten the workload!
